Is This Where The Money Went?
On Friday, YOG volunteers were rewarded with a day at Universal Studios as promised. Unfortunately the program started only after 6 pm, so they had limited time to enjoy the freebies. With queuing time for the popular Jurassic ride as long as 20 minutes, many leaving after 12.00 missed the last train and had to take an expensive taxi home. They cancelled the RWS shuttle bus service prematurely, remember? You would think with $79.8 million to play around with in "other costs", they could be more generous with the keepsake souvenir for the cheap labour.

strictly speaking, the labour wasn't "cheap". it was free. the souvenir is a laugh. the far better takeaway was volunteers' priceless experience.
ReplyDeletethey were paid in kind, sort of anyway, in the form of ez-link cards good for bus/train rides the duration of the games only. still, it was probably cheaper than the condoms given out at the "medical stations".
ReplyDeleteCondom here and condom there(in other blogs) and no one has explained wat they were for and why they were distributed as part of the goodies. Are they too shameful to even offer an explanation ? Do they want the people to screw one another ?

ReplyDeleteThe move was made after the Singapore YOG Organizing Committee and the International Olympic Committee jointly agreed with UNAIDS (United Nations Programmes on HIV and Aids) on condition that the brand of the condoms is not revealed. The concern was about sabotage advertising, not promiscuous athletes and officials.
