From First World To Third

We don't know where Michael Barr get his facts when he wrote that the trigger for the fresh wave of xenophobic fear is traceable to former Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng’s 2005 decision to engage in massive intake of foreign workers to avoid an anticipated recession. We do know that a "population czar" behind that National Population and Talent Division (NPTD) was responsible for the flood of immigrants that has wreaked havoc on our infrastructure and now threatening the very fabric of national unity.

We are not the only one facing decimation by pro-alien policies. But at least Ed Miliband, the leader of UK’s ousted Labour Party, has the grace to admit that his party got it wrong on immigration and being worried about the arrival of foreign workers in Britain is not necessarily racist:
“Worrying about immigration, talking about immigration, thinking about immigration, does not make them bigots. Not in any way. They are anxious about the future.”

If only our own politicians recognise the folly of their ways. We hope Barr is wrong, but his thesis is that the hole that has been dug will certainly bury us all:
"The government is desperately trying to modify its development model to reduce reliance on foreign workers — for example increasing the level of prefabrication in construction processes — but there is no sign that it is willing to seek out a radically new development model that will solve the problem."

He must be reading into acting minister for manpower Tan Chuan-Jin's words when the general told Wall Street Journal, “We will continue to welcome global investment and manpower because it provides the basis for a vibrant and dynamic economy”. Put plainly, regardless of what voters may feel or say, being increasingly outnumbered in their workplaces, communities and public spaces by a population of foreign workers is the new normal.

  2. Nobody has yet to question our PAP Govt to explain why a lorry driver can also be a PR or was it that our PRs has fallen to such hard times to end up as a lorry driver?

Or how our PRs also ended up as PIMPs or PROs that Spore is really short of such talents?

    1. Back in 2010, I was working for this company which employed 3 PRC ladies at the same times for clerical jobs. They applied for PR status within 3 months of their employment. 2 were granted PR status and 1 was rejected but still work on S-pass. At that time I was thinking WTF, the gov't issue PR and S-pass permit like toilet papers. 20 years ago you need to work 5 years before you can apply for PR status.

    2. Even SBS and SMRT bus drivers driving in AIR-CON Environment use PRC drivers. Why are they allowed to come in to depress local wages? These are very cushy jobs any local can do.

  3. Articles like barr's are meant for academics and the PAP's consumption. It sounds credible - globalization etc is good for a country, anyone unhappy is branded xenophobia, government is now doing all it can to mitigate overcrowding and other daily screw ups. Well as far as sinkies being xenophobic is concerned, I haven't seen any locals beating up a FT, but the reverse is happening everyday and the boys in blue are "investigating" and the law is handling out wrist slaps on assaults on the belligerent FTs. In UK and America, foreigners face racism as a way of live, here, the FTs are living it up with official backing and protection that citizens are denied.

In reality immigration (accompanied by property bubbles and rampant inflows of laundered money from Russia, India, China and Western Europe) had been used as a last gamble by all the anglo saxon economies from UK Australia and the US to show some "GDP growth" which in reality only benefited the pockets of the big business (who back politicians, academics and mass media). Frankly no one is fighting new comers, as long as the PAP play by international rules: if US, Canada and now Australia can turn away immigrants to protect their citizens, or set stringent quota and guidelines, then opening the flood gates of red dot is committing a crime to singaporeans - inviting all and sundry to come plunder and pillage. Especially if it is accompanied by deliberate attempt for the elites to further enrich themselves through blowing of "real estate" bubbles (asset enhancement, anyone?), inflation created by governemtn services (healthcare subsidies after Medishield Life plus plus plus) and importing hot laundered money to chase up costs of everything from transport to healthcare to education. And the hot money is deadly too: Mr Ma Chi's Ferrari has destroyed families. How many more families are suffering in silence? Wiring for jakartaGlobe, surely Mr barr know something about inequality, there are slums wretched beyond anything just next to the Shangrila hotel where people drink from the same canal where they defecate. Maybe an academic is not suppose to have eyes or conscience, his only worries are where his funds for research is coming from?

    1. Are you saying Michael Barr is a hypocrite not to write about the system in Indonesia ? Indonesia's problems are common to many third world countries. Is there anything new that can be said ? Barr is an academic. He has to research something of compelling interest. Singapore is far more unique case study. As Singaporeans all we can ask is where this will lead us? Singapore is still dependent on foreign investment to grow. In the past such investments developed local talent. Not any more.

  4. LHL should come up with a memoir titled "From 1st world to 3rd world: How I single handedly bring down what my father has built".

    4. It is so unbelievable to read so many Singaporeans cursing the Lees.
Many even waiting to celebrate their demises.
But, the Lees and their offsprings do not seem to be affected by the sentiment of Singaporeans.

    5. Why are they not affected by the sentiment of Singaporeans ?

Because they couldn't really be bothered as long as father, son & daughter-in-law holds the purse strings .... which alone means power !!!

Which running dog will dare to oppose them ? That's the deceit of the whole thing by one single man who will be soon be called to answer for his crimes against humanity.

  6. I re-iterate...many past precedents of what the PAP and its loony population growth at all costs to generate more "revenue"...for who...for the PAP or for the people of singapore...too obvious to point out...will lead to....

well....please google why Rome and the Ming Dynasty + various others civilisations/countries that failed...and you can see what is going to happen to Singapore in the end...why is the people of singapore paying and continue to pay for the mistakes the post 1980s PAP new generation keep on making again and again....for fark's sakes...zzz

  7. The PAP has never been known to change tack, even though policies are wrong. They never apologies when mistakes occur. They just push the blame to scapegoats.

Talking about apologies, do we remember LHL's apology after the last GE? What happened and can we blame the Indon army chief for having to explain his 'non-apologetic' apology?

    1. Change tack means reversing screwed policies and admitting they are wrong. You think they have the gall to do/say it. Have anyone ever seen a leopard w/o spots and a zebra w/o stripes. They have been too long in power and can be as arrogant as they like. Humans w/o money wants more money. When they have the money, they want power & more power. Over time, with all the money & power they do as they like until something drastic happens. History has proven this many times. My leg is more than half in the ground. I worry for the next generation and hope they wake up and be more aware of their situation before its too late.

  9. The politicians, especially the crown prince, will only recognise the folly of their ways before an election. Right now, I think he has lost it...his marbles I mean. His words and actions betray him for the imbecile and insincere brat that he is. And to think that he is our highest elected/selected official. Dare he use the "repent" word, like his daddy, and then go skulking to the electorate and cry and say "I am sorry but we will try and do better the next time"? What do you think?

And yet our dumb PM said we must integrate with them by welcoming them?
