Watch The Right Stuff

Onscreen violence
The good news is that the DIY clothes hanger antenna works (thanks, anon@4/01/2014 7:18 PM), the band width was sufficient to pull in the digital broadcast signals. Then one starts to realise that the high definition programming was pathetic. Definitely not enough content to justify the expense for a new full 1080p HDTV with DVB-T2 compliant digital tuner electronics.

And then there were the unexpected cuts. We are talking about the "Karate Kid" movie screened recently, where scenes of Afro-American Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) being roughed up by a mainland Chinese playground bully were snipped off. Yet we have on RazorTV, the uncensored assault of a motorcyclist by an angry Ang Moh on a public road. Right, no bones were broken, so the cops didn't have to come into the picture.

Media Development Authority (MDA) is spending big bucks on another survey in an effort to engage Singaporeans since traditional TV is not doing the job. Last year's poll reported that the 17,000 residents surveyed watched 29.4 hours of programmes on TV, computer and mobile phone every week, 7 hours more than in 2011. The increase was attributed to the expanded distribution of content using online and mobile platforms. There was no data on TV reach alone.

Nielsen’s most recent study indicates that Americans aged 18-24 watched a weekly average of about 22-and-a-half hours during Q4 2013. That was a 47-minute drop-off from Q4 2012, which in turn had been down more than 2 hours from the year before. TV is not dead - yet -  research suggests that online video tends to act as a complement rather than a replacement for traditional TV. But that's American TV.

Here in Singapore, the 5" smartphone or 10" tablet screen is definitely more engaging than a 55" large screen TV.  The difference is that we don't have to watch the "right"  news.

    2. Pissed-off ang mohs assaulting you in your own country is allowed to be aired In the media. Which part of that you did not understand? Maybe only when you become a victim?

  2. It just seems like many more ang mohs are involved in traffic altercations in red dot than HK Bangkok or KL than can be explained by coincidence or statistics. If mediacorp serve any purpose aprt from being the papigs' propaganda division, maybe they should do a poll on what the public thinks of ang moh motorists and cyclists. Or maybe no need la, a well-trained dog will eventually learn bad and soil everywhere if the owner closes a blind eye and ignore shit in the house habits. No doubt the "light touch" policy the senior civil servants (all eyes fixated on the year-end bonus pot) practise nowadays is the reason dogs shit everywhere. I say nowadays because it seems these folks have none of the moral fibre which saw young Mike Fay's buttocks flare up despite Clinton's protests (even while he deflowered the lovely intern while Hillary slept :)

    1. Why would they want to step on their own foot. If any survey needs to be done, they would get PA to help out. And the result will show what they want.

  3. For many years back we automatically tuned in Channel 5 or 8 when we wanted to watch TV. But ever since we were not forced to pay for the TV licence, many of my friends including me hardly ever watch any of our Mediacorpse's TV channels not even our National Day Parade.

Just wonder how much longer will Chanel 5 or 8 survive if its tame soap operas can't compete any longer with those sexy American, Korean or HK drama serials ? Is it about time that our "conservative" PAP leaders be more honest themselves by allowing sex & pornography to be part of our acceptable society values, not that our PAP leaders do not partake in sex themselves !

    1. MediaCorpse programmes are sponsored and paid for by the PAP gahmen. It can survive even if viewership drops to zero.

  4. Singapore a very safe country - for angry ang mohs - they can practice their pugilistic prowess on puny Asian locals with impunity. If you're white you're alright.

  5. The reason why the gov't act so good stopped collecting TV licence fees is because of dropping tv viewings. Mediacorpse

Is the PAP government losing control of law and order on the streets of Singapore?
