The Grapes Of Wrath

Many Singaporeans were (still are) perplexed at the Filipino outrage over the Contemplacion case; even Fidel Ramos called Contemplacion a heroine. My uncle has his own theory.

A couple of days before Contemplacion was executed for the murder of Delia Maga, a fellow Filipino domestic worker, and her charge, 4-year-old Nicholas Huang, all the taxis in Makati seemed to have the radio on at full volume. His cabby explained that a congressman was in court for rape, victim being an under aged girl whose sexual services he procured for a few pesos from her step-father. After eluding the authorities for several months, he was finally in the dock, but everyone was resigned to just a slap in the wrist for the well-connected politician. So when the congressman was convicted, the whole city erupted in jubilation. The system can be breached, justice can be served!

Since the execution had gone ahead despite a personal plea from Ramos, President of the Philippines, the Singapore government was targeted as the next evil system to take down. The Alex Boncayao Brigade, a Communist terrorist group in the Philippines, threatened to harm Singaporeans. Even the Catholic Church in the Philippines condemned the execution.

Not too long ago, Anton Casey was hounded out of the country for his insensitivity to local sentiments. Some see this a Pyrrhic victory, since the sins of the father should not be visited on his son, or Miss Singapore wife.

Now, the owner of a red Vespa is facing the wrath of another vendetta. This time over a section of asphalt at Temasek Boulevard. Will he hightail it out to Vietnam, where his company is headquartered? Or will he stand his ground, and claim his right to the roadway? Bear in mind, the entitlement spelt out by prime minister Lee Hsien Loong:
"Singaporeans, new arrivals, people who are on permanent residence here, people who are on employment pass here, all participating in one big Singapore family... So that we feel that this is a place which is special, which belongs to all of us and where we all celebrate one another’s festivals and happy events together."

  1. He should practices what he preaches and open his house and the Istana for everyone who feel that the places are special and which belongs to all of us to celebrate together lah. Why we have such a moronic leader??

    1. PM Lee might just decide to open his house and the istana when the old fart bites the dust. The attendance by PRCs, pinoys, India's Indians, etc will cover the shortfall from citizens, otherwise the send-off will not be grand enough.

  2. Can our PM stop talking cock and speak with such double standards saying that this place does belong to all of us?

For example just ask our PAP PM to honestly answer whether our PA belongs exclusively to PAP when it comes to certain celebrations ? Or for that matter whether Aljunied constituency still belongs to PAP when it comes to MPS ?

So many things in reality is not happening like what he is now saying ? Can we call him a liar or what ?

  3. We should have foreigners in the ruling party given their fetish for them. Make it a free for all, since we are told to embrace foreign sh*t in our midst. Level the playing field.

    2. This Anton Casey is way more racist and deserves to be more famous than the football fan who threw a banana in the direction of a 'black' Brazilian player who was about to take a corner kick. Now it seems the European football authorities are proposing a lifetime ban on the offending football fan. So In comparison, Anton got off extremely lightly from our so called Singapore leadership. The least is to ban this scumbag from entering Singapore for 5 years or revoke his work permit permanently.

    3. Another nice example to match Anton Casey is billionaire Donald Sterling, owner of LA Clippers basketball team who was recently banned for life for his racist comments. But that's just for starters, because currently the general public is putting pressure on Sterling to sell off his basketball franchise. Come to think of it, where the hell is Anton ?

  5. You can fool me hard but I think there are already foreigners, like the guy who did not do NS but something better saving kids' lives. Or as the minister who ought to be replaced by a Foreign Talent as he cannot think, may ask "What do you think?"

  7. Reminiscent of shanghai of the 1920s - even your Manchurian (sorry, that's Malaysian-born) Dy NEA chairman will not hesitate to insult your parents and grandparents: 'not returning hawker trays, you all have poor upbringing...' ie 没家教 ' Don't fret for the paigeo buffoon, even if he makes a quickie trip to Vietnam, that will only be bad for his wife who will probably need to see an STD specialist in a month's time. For him, he will be back in no time, just like Casey, with a new job and a company-paid BMW or Ferrari. If not the NEA Dy chairman would hire him to teach red dotters about upbringing. Btw, you see how many of these farking chiak liao bee around: even a garmen body (not stat board mind you) like NEW has a chairman and a few deputies, all paid a million plus GDP bonuses! And that farking kumar or vbala asked "where is the money going to come from?" on social spending?

  8. Looks like Paeggio chief isn't the only one getting the wrath.
A certain Mike-very-cool-guy has boldly put up the graffit that openly declared "F*ck You PAP" at the top of the Toa Payoh HDB block just to make his point. He must have been driven up the walls by them, literally speaking.

  9. Irrelevant - but love your John Steinbeck title for this entry.

My moniker is The Wrath of Grapes - what happens when you have too much wine and suffers from hangover.

  10. Steinbeck makes a clear connection in his novel between dignity and rage. As long as people maintain a sense of injustice—a sense of anger against those who seek to undercut their pride in themselves—they will never lose their dignity.

  12. He has gone gaga or bonkers, hasn't he?. Here are some more vintages that he has been trampling out: fixing the opposition, mee siam mai hum, Singapore the best place to be poor, free pork soup from the tap, never forget that we are here to serve the voters, ad nauseum.... Sampan 2.0 is in danger of floundering.

    1. ''in danger of floundering''?
spore seems to be floundering quite badly. heck we can't think of any other plan for the economy except bring in foreigners.

we completely ignore the social repercussions of having so many pple in here so fast, And do nothing about having infrastructure ready for the hordes.

we have made no preparation for a confirmed flow of food and water in the face of climate change. at least china went out and rented 5% of the Ukraine for farming crops. meanwhile, we boast about being green while we destroy our forests.

we're so scared of being honest -- no one wants to reveal the nitty gritty of the workings of temasek and gic, or give real breakdowns of employment figures. or even admit that this island was going strong and NOT a fishing village when kuan yew and party wiggled and wangled their way into power.

we worship only money and academic grades, and kuan yew.

nah, we're not in Danger of floundering, we Are floundering. Big time.

will we be here at the end of this century? the way things are going, highly unlikely...

    2. Slow death by asphyxiation from the deadly embrace between self-serving faceless civil service and unaccountable politics driven by their common interest of self-enrichment. Elitism is your problem. You heard it here first.
