Singapore No Longer Safe

One may fault the female A*STAR researcher for walking a dimly lit path unescorted, but nobody could imagine a child would be assaulted in front of the Family Justice Courts building. In broad daylight, in the vicinity of the subordinate courts complex where uniformed policemen are usually milling around. And then there're the scum bags who give paparazzi a bad name, neither rendering assistance to the victim or giving chase after the assailant.

Cookie monsters galore
From whence did law and order descend to such a hellish state in safe haven of Singapore? Some may trace it all the way back to when a heavy hand was laid on the cheek of Dhanabalan, the gory account of which is found on page 150 of Ross Worthington's book, "Governance in Singapore", available at the Lee Kong Chian reference library. Others may point towards the lack of action from the Singapore Police Force, despite multiple reports already filed against one Jason Tan, the politically protected advocate of child abuse. And it looks like he's getting away with his brand of violence too.

Even the taciturn Minister of Law had to draw a line on the brazen attack.
"Amos Yee was assaulted as he was going to court today. That is quite unacceptable.
Rule of Law means respecting the legal process. If everyone starts taking the law into his or her own hands, then we will no longer be a civilised society."

The prime minister may make political mileage out of advocating stronger action against the ISIS at the 26th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur, but the real terror is already in town.

  1. How fast that assailant is apprehended and charged would tell us a lot about our justice system.
The cameras were there, the paparazzi witnesses were there, should be a walk in the park for the Police to nab him.
Love him or hate him, someone should have gone forward to stop that rather then continue filming the scene for primetime news

  2. It's unbelievable that no reporters, photographers go after the assailant to interview and take his photograph. That's newsworthy. I would said it is totally unacceptable to assault Amos Yee for what he had done. The state had ruin him and his family.

    1. Well, most likely the reporters and photographers are glad that Amos got whacked - doing what they wanted to do but were afraid to do so. They approved what they saw - so why go after the assailant who was doing them a favour.

    2. It's more unbelievable no cops were around. Normally there are lots of police cars at the carpark.

A drowning man is not bothered by the rain.

Amos has the magnanimity to forgive monster cookie (since he is NOT a hypocrite) , he is as unlikely to be disturbed by the assailant. Going by the video, he just carried on and didn't even give chase to the slapper!

If anyone still thinks this kid is a "bad" person that deserves some lessons meted out to him, they clearly need to check in with their heart and mean bone.

  3. It boggles the mind at the inertia of the SPF, especially where the offenders are politically connected. Must a police report be filed before they take action in clear cut infringement of the law, in broad daylight? Or must there be dead bodies or blood running down the street first! I notice they are very quick to clamp down on protesters using 8-strong goon squads. The law is supposed to be blind, not one-eyed.

    1. If I'm not mistaken, in Singapore, the person who witnesses the event (policeperson or otherwise) makes the report. But it is the public prosecutor who decides to charge. The only other avenue is to take out a civil suit.

We need names and we need them fast. Who are these so called reporters or should we just call them bystanders. We want all their names...and we mean all of them.

  5. The way the paparazzi were following the assailant when he was heading towards Amos suggest that they knew in advance the intentions of assailant. Hence, they followed him to capture the best shots of the assault. After the assault they continued to follow Amos to take pictures of his injuries. What a bunch of paparazzi we have in our midst.

  6. That local-brand terrorist could have been sent by pro-PAP grass-roots leader who had threatened to cut Amos Yee's "penis off and shaft it into his mouth" and could on behalf of someone who was in the habit of slapping people who got on his nerves.

  7. A criminal intimidation using physical violence has been committed by a person (still unknown) right in front of the Family Courts in brought day light, and right in front of a group of more than ten reporters/journalists and camera-men.

What is the Police and the Attorney General's Office going to DO about it?

How long will it take the Police to investigate - another 3 months or 3 days? Will there be a swift reaction like what the Police had done to Amos Yee?

Will there be any investigation at all, if nobody makes a Police Report?

How is our Government going to assure the whole world that Singapore is still a Safe Place, after a Female Researcher from Biopolis was slashed by a criminal while walking through a path, and now after Amos Yee has been assaulted right in front of the Family Courts in broad day light and in front of a group of reporters and camera-men, who did not bothered to response to apprehend the criminal and deliberately allowed him to escape?

    2. The charge regarding LKY has been stood down and never should it had been in the first place . Christians say they are not offended and even petition for his release. Other than being vulgar which I don't think its criminal, how are they going to convict him to placate LKY worshippers?
I say release the boy and stop this media circus.
Its giving this red dot an unsavory international reputation.
That Amos' video rant wouldn't even get mentioned if he had live a in true democratic nation

    3. AG has stood down (for now) but also means it is not entirely discharged. IT can be reinstated to use it against him if, presumably, he misbehavior again.

I think if what Amos said about the procedures that requires him to report into the station, is clearly an abuse of power. They just want to make things more difficult for him. In this day and age, does the SOP needs to reviewing?

  12. TODAY just reported that a 49-year-old man has been arrested for assaulting Amos, but get this: "It is unclear what offence the man is being investigated for but under the law, voluntarily causing hurt is non-arrestable." Whoa, is this a farked up country or what? No wonder the angmohs are bashing up our taxi drivers, and Jason Tan is still running around free. Let's see how Shanmugam explain this.

  13. It is not a case of voluntarily causing hurt any more.

It is a case of premeditated criminal intimidation upon a juvenile and, more importantly, a direct open challenge to the enforcer and upholder of the Law, i.e. the Police Force, the Prosecutor, the Judiciary, the Government, as well as the whole Nation, in the aspects of safety, security and law and order!

It happened in the vicinity of the State Courts, where Justice has to be seen to have been done; where even the safety of the Judges, Prosecutors, Lawyers, Witnesses and Any Accused would be in jeopardy.

This case sets the precedence in the eyes of the nation and in the eyes of the whole world, especially in the eyes of the millions of foreign talents, talons and thrash in Singapore.

The State cannot simply brush it aside as a civil case, and leave it to Amos Yee or his parents to deal with it. The Police and the Attorney General cannot easily wash their hands. They are now forced to take the necessary actions to the satisfaction of the world at large.

    1. Amos could have been killed at the court house.

The PAP government is responsible for allowing the attack to occur. They ignore the multitude of threats against Amos. Their very own PAP supporters are instigating violence against Amos, including Bertha Henson who took vicarious pleasure in the attack and a grassroot leader who publicly threatened to mutilate the kid. The PM's silence about the threats and the attack is DEAFENING. The situation can easily escalate into tit for tat. Remember it took only one incident to ignite the Arab Spring. PAP must stand down right now.

Amos' only 'crime' was that he had the guts to declare that the (recently dead) Emperor had no clothes. LKY and his so-called 'legacy' was a fraud if you peel away the propaganda.

But go ahead and keep believing in your 'ah gong brought us from third world to first' fable. People should be entitled to their religious beliefs if they bring emotional comfort.

The PAP govt propaganda whitewashes this, which really is another way to protray itself as having done a brilliant job.

Now after a decade of Lee Hsien Loong and the hordes of foreigners he had brought into the country, expect things to get worse.

  17. We should all be grateful to SG50. Let me explain:

Every pro-PAP institution, website, company etc have made outlandish promotions regarding SG50. Even the official logo banner of PAP's website has a 'celebrate SG50' graphic on it.

All of them, no exceptions. Everytime you see the SG50 logo or some overt promotion of SG50, understand that institution's true loyalties. It is a failproof litmus test.

That said, welcome to my boycott list, Popular Bookstore. I will never buy another item from you, not even envelopes or an eraser.

Then again, PAP patronage is very important for business success in Singapore. It's how you get the good rental deals and prime locations at malls islandwide. Refer to Breadtalk Group's eateries.

  18. "In previous reports of such cases, I read that police would normally close the case by advising the victim to take a civil suit against the assailant."

    So are you saying under PAP government's justice system;
    If a Singaporean gets slapped,
Your only recourse is to hire your own lawyer(expensive) to seek justice.
And if you cannot afford a lawyer ... too bad ...
If true, this means we can anyhow slap poor Singaporean people and get away with it right?

    But what about Alien maids?
If I slap my Alien maid, I will get arrested right?
The Alien maid no need to hire a lawyer to protect her rights correct?
So an Alien maid has better protection under PAP Singapore laws than a Singaporean right?

So we can more easily get away with slapping a poor Singaporean than an Alien maid?
    True or not?

  19. The Protection from Harassment Act charge which AGC has decided to stand down refers to the part of the video which “contained remarks about Mr Lee Kuan Yew which was intended to be heard and seen by persons likely to be distressed” by the clip. Which implies that, with the passage of time, calling the old goat a horrible person is no longer distressing, especially to the 450,000 who filed past the coffin.

But for the first charge under Section 298, the charge sheet stated that the video “contained remarks against Christianity, with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of Christians in general”. Meaning, if I tell you in the face that it’s scientifically impossible for Jesus Christ to walk on water, and you’re offended by the remark, it means that your ‘religious feelings’ have been hurt, and I’m liable to get charged under the Penal Code. Actually I think Christians are more upset when someone else claims to be able to rise from the dead, a feat attributable only to their Savior. This ridiculous charge, too, must be stood down.

LKY is dead but his malfeasance lingers on in his sycophants and his oppressive institutions. It's been more than a month since his death, and some of the grateful twits out there still have that LKY black ribbon as their Facebook profile picture.

  20. I am surprised that nobody has asked a simple but obvious question since Amos case broke out into the news.

Why is a smart boy (may have asperger issue) like him not attending school ? Did he complete his O levels? His math and literacy is quite good from what I understand, and clearly his thinking skills is strong. WHy hasn't he go onto to JC or Poly? Is it because no public schools here were prepared to take him on (due to his notoriety as he was made to apologize to the school after the cny video)? If so, then this is clearly the fault of our society or education system that is unable to accommodate someone like him. Thus resulting in his misspent youth, energy and intellect.
He needs to go back to school and I want to hear why/what his reasons for not being able to?

Get to the root cause people! He needs 1:1 attention and counseling fast. Not the other way round.

    2. By the way, Amos Yee did finish his O Levels at Zhonghua Secondary, and was posted to Nanyang JC, but he dropped out and claimed to want to make money from making videos online where he "could rant".

That said, I have no idea about his motivation for constantly breaking bail conditions. That is one major reason why few people dare to be the guarantor for his bail, because of the possibility of him posting videos despite being instructed not to. He is now being made the scapegoat for the government's agenda, and if they even try to break a 17-year old, no matter how precocious he is, this will inevitably mar Singapore's international reputation.

Only PAPigs are deluded enough to believe their own bullshit ... i.e. that Singapore has any credible "international" reputation.
You should engage the Aliens (especially the ones from developed democracies) in a private one-on-one conversation about what they really think.

  25. The fact that no one's been in training to take over as leader -- ah loong was tutored for more than a decade by some of the best -- once again highlights the total lack of planning and foresight in a country which did not do anything about infrastructure BEFORE/AS it brought in more than 2 million people. And these are supposed to be high performers??? My big toe!

The bunch in the Cabinet now are so so-so, they take mediocre to new averages. Nice people if you know them, but not one has the personality of a leader. Let's not even talk of being able to carry a crowd with a speech.

We have squashed personality and difference of opinion so utterly in this country -- look at what's happening to Amos -- we are turning out flat, uninteresting yesmen ie robots. Its effects are already in your face. Minds are so absolutely closed!! And the better you dance to their tune, the higher and faster you go. How can like dat one???

The Amos case also strongly indicates that Christians here don't practise what they preach. Where's the forgiveness that is a cornerstone of the religion? Where's the tolerance? And why so petty and vindictive? People are making a mockery of Christianity!

And now its okay to give people a good tight slap when you disagree with them?? Physical violence is fine? Good grief!!
Looks like we are FAR from 1st world in too many ways.

We dress/look rich but are obviously poverty-stricken when it comes to what really matters.
