It Starts With A Lie

Jump, Sir? How high, Sir?
The official retirement age for commissioned officers in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is 50 years old, up from 45 previously - adjusted in 2009 so that Colonel Ishak Ismail at age 46 could become the first Malay general in the SAF - and warrant officers and specialists retire at 55. Amidst all the talk about advancing the retirement age for a greying nation, it is plainly contrarian for a career officer of 29 years' service to hang up his star studded uniform at age 47.

Just after another general talked about pureness of heart, the latest lottery player resorts to deceit to beguile the public with, "While I do no rule out the option of returning to the Administrative Service...." The tragedy is that Ng Chee Meng is a qualified pilot, trained at great expense to the taxpayers, to defend the nation from the cockpit of a F-16 Falcon or F-15 Strike Eagle. Unlike Brigadier-General Hoo Cher Mou who was the first non-pilot to be appointed air force chief in Singapore, or any military in the world. Ng chose instead to eject from magnificent flying machines, and parachute into the gutter politics of a third world parliament.

"Given his tested leadership and proven capabilities, I would not at all be surprised if indeed he does (enter politics)," that was Ng Eng Hen, no relation, further insulting the intelligence of the electorate. The Lieutenant General's "leadership' and "capabilities" include sending our young men into the active combat zones of Afghanistan and the Gulf of Aden, while he had the cosy job of doing guard duty for a horrible person lying in state. That and the all important National Day Parade, our paper mill generals' acid test equivalent of John McCain's ordeal at Hotel Hanoi. Play spot the toy soldiers on August 9, you should be able to easily pick out the Rear-Admirals, Brigadier-Generals, Major-General, and the only guy in uniform, the Lieutenant-General. Don't be surprised if some foreign correspondent mistakes the line up at the Padang for Russia's Red Square Parade.

  1. There is nothing for Singapore to prove how smart its generals are except NDP. Any way, controlling the population and NDP is same same lah.

    1. Ronnie Tay of IDA is ex-Chief of Navy? Like Goh Yong Siang of Temasek is ex-Chief of Air Force? And we thought only Myanmar was run by generals!! They were "smart" indeed.

  2. This one is actually a farmer general, his 2 other star-studded brothers were actually "scholars". Sometimes funeral guards can also become ministers. So ass kissing can buy GCB, peeing at the right time can buy GCB, now funeral guards also can buy not one but several GCBs, taxpayers shud be proud abt the great social mobility in red dot!

  3. The MILITARY MEN AND MAYBE WOMAN(MEN) IN TIME TO COME, STRONGLY INDICATE THAT PAP HAS THE INTENT TO KEEP ITSELF IN POWER WITH THE BACK-UP OF THE SINGAPORE ARMED FORCES.

    PAPPIES WANT ABSOLUTE POWER.

AND THERE IS NO NEED TO GUESS WHERE ABSOLUTE POWER WILL LEAD TO.

    SINKIES BETTER BEWARE.

IT IS THE FINAL AND LAST CHANCE FOR
SINGAPOREANS TO SACK THE PAPPIES IN THE COMING GENERAL ELECTION
    BEFORE AN OLIGARCHY IS FORM.

DO SINGAPOREANS WANT A OLIGARCHY WHICH WILL DICTATE EVERYTHING YOU DO?

    1. With more military men jetisson into politic, good men would not want to join PAP. PAP would become SAF Party very soon.

  4. So far no one has been impressed by the other 3 star lg still in public limelight, who went from army to become pee ass, then parachuted to the smrt. For the millions they pay them, might as well bring back winston choo, at least that buffoon did not make us pay another $1 billion every time they find a new "solution" to yet another "new" problem they created.

  6. How pure can their hearts be when they don't feel ashamed in tricking those old uncles and aunties from Tanjong Pagar constituency into attending their election rallies at CCK with a packet of chicken rice with free transport thrown in ? Just compare this to their decision to banned free transport for integrated families to visit Sentosa "Integrated" Resort, it makes one wonder how integrated these casinos can be ?

And the more they postponed the retirement age just because of the impending GE , the more it make one wonder whether those earlier batches who missed the deadline will hate PAP so much more for anyhow changing the goalposts until they switch to vote for the opposition ? Just like those Pioneer Generation who missed the dateline by a couple of months or years, do you think they will support PAP more ?

  7. I believe it was Napoleon who said he liked a good soldier who has been through the baptism of fire. Only in Singapore , Mr Ng likes to remove the lottery stakes and openly said "good and strong candidates should not be put in risky wards"!

Paper general or guard duty for dead person is enough to earn your place via the gravy train. Plus that million dollar pay will add to your dignity.

  10. Until the SAF scholarship is scrapped or revamped, expect more of these paper scholars to take up positions of leadership and further ruin the country.

If you want a career with the SAF, stay in uniform till you retire or die, whichever comes first. Stay away from politics and from the public sector.

  12. Ng Eng Hen: "Given his tested leadership and proven capabilities". But "proven capabilites" in what? Has he fought any war, led any men in battle, or fired any shot fired in anger, ie, being a real soldier? Are organising NDPs and state funerals the job descriptions of our generals?

Our scholar generals are more administrators (paper generals) than real soldiers. Ng Chee Meng was promoted from Major-General to Lieutenant-General in less than 2 years, which proves the point. And now he will probably be parachuted into Parliament via the backdoor. For these scholars, the SAF is just a stepping stone for more lucrative appointments in politics or government companies as long as they know which side of their bread is buttered.

"It is always dangerous for soldiers, sailors, or airmen to play at politics. They enter a sphere in which the values are quite different from those to which they have hitherto been accustomed.” - Winston Churchill

    1. It is "dangerous" and to the detriment of the country and citizenry to fill the leadership positions of the government with scholar generals and book-learners who have different values. We need leaders with vision and the interests of the people at heart - not more bureaucrats, aristocrats, meritocrats and yes-men. There is a saying that generals always fight the last war - they learn the lessons of history, but don't create history.

Ah Hen's mantra: "Our first priority is and should be: can this person we're putting up for election care for residents' needs?" Is it only during elections that they make such noble declarations, like Ah Loong saying " We are the servants of the people" during the last election? Judge for yourselves whether these scholar generals, and every other candidate, serve first.... their masters, their party, their ideology, and their own interests ..... than serve the people.

  13. We have our own tall tales in town, like the son of a Prime Minister who made Youngest Brigadier General, also at net speed, despite skipping Section Leaders' Course and missing 4 months of Officer Cadet Training.

The trend to leapfrog deaf frogs continue. Not only do they rise fast, they fail fast too. All done on our dime and expenses.
