Going Up In Smoke

During the Hungry Ghost Month (鬼月) and Qingming Festival (the annual ritual of tomb sweeping), the burning of paper construction offerings is a symbolic act of respect and filial piety to one’s ancestors. The superstitious believe that by burning them, it teleports the items from the material world to the spiritual realm of the afterlife. If mama is feeling lonely, you can dispatch papa and boy-boy facsimiles over to keep her company.

Unfortunately, that's not how it works. Also, the 50 people who were protesting outside the Singapore Consulate in Hong Kong on Sunday were expressing wishes of another kind. The South China Morning Post reported that the protesters were burning effigies of a horrible pair. When a similar incendiary exercise was once attempted at Hong Lim Green, the mata-mata said it's illegal in Singapore. Later a lawyer would point out it is not so. The discussion stopped there, since our cops are apparently licensed to shoot first, debate later, and damned be the safety lock built into the weapon by the Taurus manufacturer.

Thanks to the fiery message sent by the 50 strong, plus the Hong Kong University (HKU) Students' Union, the Taiwan Association for Human Rights, the Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and many others who saw through the perfidy of a flawed justice system, Monday 6 July 2015 will be a day to be remembered.

Like the Greeks who refused to be cowed by the ‘Troika’, consisting of the IMF, European Commission and European Central Bank, one should not be deterred by the challenges ahead. Gallagher wrote that the Greek debt swindle is similar to the TARP scam foisted on the American people, “Its political perpetrators are the same huge banks, and the European Central Bank working with the Federal Reserve.” Our nemesis is the MAS, the GIC, the Temasek Holdings and our swindle involves the CPF.

He should be so lucky when he behaves like a loony that that the effigies is all he is getting, for now. The Trump pinata is a raging hit with the mexicans when Trump announced his presidential run for his horribleness.

Luckily for the Americans, their statues believe in the freedom of expressions (that include joy, happiness, tears, fears, hope, anger, sadness) - everything that the natural aristocracy of the universe would accord to a human being to feel and freely express. Unfortunately for a one-man-made island, only sacrificial joy, surface smiles and fake positivity are unnaturally condoned.

    Open season soon.

  2. Their effigies deserve to be burnt and their tomb spat upon for abusing and torturing a 16-year old child.

    1. No wonder he wanted to be cremated instead of burial - his ashes can be locked away in a Swiss bank safe deposit box, together with the dirty money from countless lawsuits.

  3. In ancient China during the Spring Autum/ Warring State era, they unearthed the tomb of the hated king and whipped his corpse after they defeated the successor of the hated king.

    1. The former king is now dead and six feet under right in the red dot, but people are behaving as if he is still alive by going out to pursue legal action and physical violence against a teenager who is merely potty-mouthed at the most, even trying to break him through the mental institution and prison centers. It is good that the old king is now cremated and his body can no longer be recovered, or else, there would be a lot of boohoo hooha drama again.

  4. Suddenly they declare the boy mentally healthy and can be released to society after all those mental and psychological harm they inflicted on him.

What a vindictive and morally irresponsible leadership that we have here ? Do you want to vote for a Govt that can do the same thing to your child for the simple reason that he dared to speak out ? Are you sure this will and cannot happen to you ?

  5. In medieval italy, when a merchant did not pay his debts, the bench at which he conducted business would be smashed to force him to stop trading. Thus the word "bankrupt" from banco rotto meaning "broken bench".
In Singapore, is the other way round. Merchants ruin your benches and demand other regions to follow their benchmark. Look no further when Najib is another monkey-see, monkey-do.

Here in never-land we are never allowed to question it privately, never mind doubt it publicly. Never before should we allow national security be made public and never will it allow data or facts to speak for itself. Trust BUT never verify is the continued motto of the jubilee century.

Failing Asian logic like "Failure to sue, is an admission of guilt" is head scratching because whatever happens to the logically "Failure to prove, is an admission of guilt"?

That is like Bernie Madoff saying Ascot Partners Funds is vulnerable. We cannot afford to fail, we need proven "cash flow" and leader like myself to continue the viability of the funds.

Well, if people happen to enjoy living in that kind of uncertainty for their life time savings, I got some Santorini islands and assets to sell to you, backed by gold and silver too.

  6. If there weren't such an international and domestic outcry and protest over the treatment of the child, there would be no end to this 'mountain out of a molehill' case.
For those IB breast-beating 'butt-out-of- our country's- matters' sycohants, your masters really did cave in because they are on the wrong side of history.
The failure of the respective G depts from the top down to stop this miscarriage of justice earlier is a concern to all of us.

    1. Since when is autism a mental illness?
How many autistic children went to IMH to get a diagnosis for autism?
Is leaving the lights on 23 hours a day part of the diagnosis process for autism?

      Unbelievable.

  7. You are right, is another tarp scam rinse, wash and repeat.
Everyone knows it but refuse to speak out. They rather knowingly flow with it as there are still monies to be made for themselves, while the good time lasts. There is after all, plenty of taxpayers money to bail them out. They like to have you believe that it is the people who are trying to go for 'free money'.
