Drawn And Quartered

Robert-François Damiens, who attempted assassination of King Louis XV in 1757, was the last person to be executed in France by drawing and quartering, the traditional and gruesome form of death penalty reserved for regicides (deliberate killing of a monarch):
"He was condemned to be tortured with red-hot pincers on four limbs and on each breast. His wounds were to be sprinkled with molten lead and boiling oil and his body was then to be torn in pieces by four horses, the remains being subsequently burnt."

If you saw the teary-eyed Lui Tuck Yew on television, you would have thought that's how he imagined the horrible fate of Moulmein-Kallang GRC, drawn and quartered to be scattered to the  four constituencies: Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Tanjong Pagar GRC and the newly-created Jalan Besar GRC.
“For me of course there is a sense of disappointment because I have been with the residents for so many years already and I’ve really come to become very fond of them and I will miss them dearly.”

About to be derailed
Of course it's all play-acting. Following the cue of Lim Boon Heng, who cried like a baby after being told he was being laid off, and next rewarded with a plum assignment at Temasek Holdings, the bawling is just audition for higher office. Outdo Lim's histrionic theatrics, and Lui could be the next elected president. Just as many have forgotten about SR Nathan's service record with the Japanese police during World War II, nobody will remember the mess Lui made of the public transportation system.

And if the intel in the sidebar is accurate, Lui will still be around for awhile. In case you're are fantasizing about hooking him to four trains running in opposite directions of the North-South and East-West tracks, don't bother. His armed forces buddies will simply arrange for another simultaneous system breakdown, and the submariner will resurface to make our lives miserable again.

  1. Time is right. Hope Singaporeans will be voting without fear. The elite class must be removed and let the common people rule instead.

  2. At least 10 or more of the sidebar list have served two terms. Which means taxpayers get to pay them lifetime pension aka financial crutches which ordinary people like you or I can only dream about. Not bad for some bad play acting.

  3. Can it be true that Lim Hng Kiang is quitting? Maybe his wife dying of cancer in April 2014 is reminding him of his own mortality.

    1. Oh Oh. Musical Chairs, The Redux, Who will take over the Ministry of Trade and Industry?

There was a very curious move by the PM when he appointed Lim Hng Kiang as acting PM on 12 & 13 September over the head of Tharman. And now the 2-day PM is quitting? What gives? Remember sniffer Lui, despite his onerous duties as Transport Minister, was also made the second Minister of Defence. Has the PM gone bonkers, or is there logic to the madness?

Najib sacked his deputy Muhyiddin over the 1MDB scandal. Is Loong going to do a Najib on Tharman? Has he got what it takes to wield the hatchet? Questions, questions.

  4. He already gave a hint that he is destined to be rewarded with a lucrative position. But he is not telling now.

But why cannot be honest and sincere to tell us now ? I suppose it is not good image for people to know he will just become another PAP crony like those IMDB ones across the causeway ?

In that case, use four submarines instead.

  6. Back to your best , Tattler. Congratulations. Yes, in this little red dot incompetence will be duly rewarded. Kicking them upstairs, as they say. The time is ripe to break this vicious cycle, spun at great public expense.

  8. Yes. Lui will be around for the contest after a major riots in his ward, little India , not to mention all those extremely worrying breakdowns for the umpteenth times. We are told this time, drum roll.......leaking water pipe!! So frankly, are we surprised that he was extremely surprised about the dissolution of his constituency.

He will scare the Believers and irk the Non-believers.

Please let him rest in peace for goodness sake.

  11. The rear admiral will not be submerged. He can float or can even fly. The PAP just like the British will not abandon one of their one.
His name in Chinese is so auspicious that they will put him in a position that will pull in big money.
    Defence contracts, submarine contracts.

  12. As Chief of Navy, Rear-Admiral Lui Tuck Yew said at the Commissioning Ceremony of the Submarine RSS CHIEFTAIN at Changi Naval Base on 24 Aug 2002, "Submarines are stealthy by nature and that enables them to operate more effectively in an environment where surface ships may be more vulnerable." Looks like he will have to resort to stealth mode in order to survive the leaks at SMRT.
