The Reflections Of Lim

Lim Wee Kiak couldn't be more wrong when he said that Singapore Airlines (SIA) has better media management than Malaysia's handling of the MH370 incident. A senior Yahoo executive was furious when SIA spokesman Rick Clements told CNN that there were no casualties after SQ006 turned into the wrong runway on the night of Oct 31, 2000, and crashed into a construction vehicle, killing 83 of 179 passengers aboard. Screaming his frustration on TV, he asked aloud how could that be when he personally saw a fellow passenger in his first class section burst into flames?

“Everyone here knows who the dead are but we were still crying back in Singapore and up till now, we know nothing. You owe us an explanation!” a Singaporean woman shouted at SIA CEO Cheong Choong Kong. The brother of a man who died in the crash was also not impressed by Cheong's lame excuses. “Tell the press the true story,” he said. “Don’t hide any more. Are people’s lives more important or SIA’s reputation?” It all sounds so familiar, only the angry voices were not PRC Chinese.

Lim had to eat humble pie - with a side order of grovel sauce - for different reasons. He dared suggest that the MH370 incident "revealed glaring gaps in communications among ASEAN countries". Foreign Minister K Shanmugam couldn't have been pleased. Lim didn't just stop at undoing regional relations, he ventured further into territorial security, "This episode into may give China a reason to say they should manage the airspace over South China Sea." This time it's the Defence Minister's turn to facepalm.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Senior Parliamentary Secretary Sam Tan made the official position clear: the remarks by Lim, who chairs the Government Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs, "do not represent the views of the Government".

The Nee Soon GRC Member of Parliament (MP) once told Workers’ Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang “I will quote (from your speech then) one more time. And maybe your hearing aid has to be (turned) up a little bit.” Maybe all of us, Lim included, need to have our hearing checked. How can the chair of the Government Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs not speak for Defence and Foreign Affairs?

If there's one good reason to distance yourself from this controversial character, it should this defence of ministerial salaries by arguing that a reasonable payout helps maintain "dignity" for politicians dealing with media:
"If the annual salary of the Minister of Information, Communication and Arts is only $500,000, it may pose some problems when he discuss policies with media CEOs who earn millions of dollars because they need not listen to the minister's ideas and proposals. Hence, a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity," Dr Lim told LianHe ZaoBao in Chinese.

  1. When our very own PM told jokes of pork soups in rivers and free smokes from windows about China to the Americans, what else can we expect from his henchmen?

    1. Frankly is there any person up there who is not a ball carrier when their fate or fortune depends on the master?

It's the same everywhere whether it's China, North Korea or even Malaysia ? I'll also recruit ball carriers if I am the master!!!

    2. Carrying balls gets you very far in Singapore. But for sometimes, because the government's hands are on one's balls, you will have no choice but to carry theirs. Think of employers and civil servants in Singapore.

    3. Not just balls carrying skills will do for LKY and son, one has to think and behave like their eunuchs in order to go far. FamiLee's recipe for success you might say ?

  4. Utter waste of taxpayers money. This is what happens with the GRC scheme, parasites feeding on more able ministers and MPs. Now they face the baptism of fire through online media.

    4. I don't think he's arrogant. Stupid, v v definitely. doesn't know his stuff and doesn't do his homework, for sure; but tt's par for the course these days. doesn't think things thru too. misses the big picture as well. throw in a set of values that a wild animal would laugh at, and a twisted sense of morality.

perhaps its because he's short. hitler and napoleon were short too.

pity, as all those ''qualities'' make one hesitant about using his professional services.

having said all that, he does seem to have a point when it comes to communication in asean. in spore's case, the other members are pissed off with our high n mighty attitude, our lording it over them, our lecturing them and constant boasting. not the kind of qualities tt encourage friendship.

  9. In the US, the chair of such committees in the Senate/Congress would hold great influence and even approve/disapprove of Presidential appointments.
Perhaps our Mr Dignity thought he's in same position got carried away only to discover pie on his face and tail between his legs

  10. Time and time again, this doctor MP is fond of speaking nonsense and then apologised later for his remarks.

Remember his stupid comments linking ministerial high pay with the "dignity" of politicians and loss of face if their pay is lower than company CEO.

  12. Another eye doctor! But shud anyone be surprised that doctors trained at NUS are equally idiotic as all his other fellow doctors (many of which have made it to national politics)? The selection process for medical school at NUS consist of nothing but a 30 min interview manned by same bunch of clowns chosen and trained in the same mould - no change for 30 years! Sounds familiar? Of course, its basically the same system for scholars selection interview after 'A levels' which determines which 18yr old becomes a future chief of defence force or minister. So a bunch of insiders and former Oxbridge scholars will choose those who resemble them to be their successors. Cookie cutter production line will end up generating group-thinking, inbreeding guarantees idiots after a few generations, assholes produce assholes. In his half-senile meditation with his favourite meditation ball carrier, LKY might finally understand this simple rule of genetics which even animals in the wild easily grasp.

  13. I tend to agree with some of his points. He was speaking candidly. As a person holding position in a Parliamentary committee, why can't he just have the conviction to hold his views? Does he need to withdraw just because his Party or Govt think he's being undiplomatic?
So much for the often touted PAP candidate being their own person during elections

    1. This is a great Singapore mystery.
PAP claims they have achieved so many clever things.
Spends billions on defence to be all powerful.
Even have grand plans for succession.

And yet feel so fragile and vulnerable that even an assembly of ONE Singaporean protesting against PAP policies.
This is subject to immediate arrest by an otherwise absent police force that is nowhere to be seen when elderly Singaporean taxi drivers get beaten up by ang mohs.

      How can this be?

  14. He is named No Dignity Lim. He is not earning more than Shan or Pinky Lee therefore his views or criticisms hold no weight. That is his logic on the ministers salary. If he has gut and conviction, he should stand by what he said and not retract his statement.

  15. Now I get it. He has problems discussing policies with Mayor Sam Tan, who is a Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ...etc, whose annual salary is higher than his, and need not listen to his ideas or proposals, and therefore can brush off his criticisms on the way Malaysia provided information about MH370 and about "glaring gaps in communications among ASEAN countries", as not representing the "views of the Government". Now I understand what he meant when he said "a reasonable payout will help to maintain a bit of dignity", and they would listen to him. Gotcha, Dr Lim Wee Kiat.

    1. So the meritocracy of Dr Lim Wee Kiat is not meritocracy but Plutocracy .....
This matches with Lee Hsien Loong's desire to have more billionaires in Singapore.

      Plutocracy:
      ------------------
Plutocracy or plutarchy, defines a society or a system ruled and dominated by the small minority of the wealthiest citizens.
