Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong may refer to the announced changes to his Cabinet as "part of continuing leadership renewal", but it sure looks like a children's playground round of musical chairs.

Lim Swee Say takes over Tan Chuan‐Jin's appointment of Minister for Manpower;
Tan Chuan‐Jin takes over Chan Chun Sing's appointment of Minister for Social and Family Development;
Chan Chun Sing takes over Lim Swee Say's appointment of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.

Same tired old trio playing scissors-paper-stone.  Where is the renewal element, where are the fresh faces?

If anyone drew the short straw, the keechiu general seems to have lost big time. He ceded not only the Minister for Social and Family Development honours for what used to be aptly called Minister Without Portfolio (a.k.a. good for no particular field of specialty), he also had to surrender the Second Minister for Defence post to Lui Tuck Yew, poor guy already submerged way beyond his depth with the onerous Minister for Transport hat.

The big winner seems to be Masagos Zulkifli. Full Ministership means 24/7 Gurkha guards for his private residential security and a freshly minted millionaire. His prize is not just being another Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (anybody keeping score how many of those are already in the Prime Minister's Office?), but also Second Minister for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Does that mean he is entitled to three million dollars?

Makes you want to watch the Amos Yee video again, particularly the last part about hoping for change, good change.
Just have to be right place, right time

  2. They are enjoying the Musical Chair Game and getting paid in the Millions in Sin Dollars.
Where else in the World can such a thing happen?

Each time, they changed Offices, are any of them responsible for all the problems prevailing at their times of office?

OR ARE THE PROBLEMS CONSIDERED OVER AS THE MINISTER HAD GONE OVER TO A DIFFERENT MINISTRY?

  3. So how does it work? Does each superfluous title added means another "Kaching" of $$1m added to their cpf statement. If so, what is masagos kpkb about his sacrifice of family time. He must remember he has traded in his life/time for a successful "career" and bank acct.

    1. First words upon his promotion was to credit Singapore for running its govt based on meritocracy. Wonderful humility ...or lack of in a leader.

  4. Another cabinet reshuffle? 5th time over last 4 years. No wonder ikea is doing a roaring business.

Some people are so good at flowing on so more money can flowing in to his account. What betterer slogan will he have now for the PMETs?

    1. PM must be proud of him-shelf.

So according to his logic, yesterday he caught one fish, and today he got another fish from the same river and that is social progress.

So from Punggol, Chao Chu Kang, Bukit Batok to now Bedok, the rats colony are also growing. That must be social progress lor?

But how come then we can't even be ranked when it comes to Social Progress Indiex 2015 leh? Obviously again, thanks to the "trade-off" and economic success by Senior Lee, we are left in the same corridors along with the Senegal and Vietnam lots...

We really should have Amos Yee to thank for not beating about the mulberry bush indeed.

    1. LSS's definition of labor movement, during his reign can be summed up as such.

Moving cheap labor from India, China & Philippine into Singapore to replace local labor. In the process, he cheapens the image and the cost of these jobs that were previously done by Singaporeans. Not to mention, causing social grievances with clashes and conflicts.

The same can be said about the PMETs. The ang-mohs came in and lord over the eperienced middle class who are also sandwiched by the cheaper PMETs from neighboring countries.

Once again, they win, we lose. With this kind of demographics-based policy, even you have skills also got no future. Except in taxi-driving..then again, with driverless cars in future, that is also looking grim.

  6. The kueh lapis government at its usual, wasteful best. Every time the game of musical chairs starts, more public spending occurs. With the never-ending creation of new Ministers and co-ordinating entities, the public suffers.

  7. Its evident from their shuffling that there is no other "better" quality in the cabinet.

    Singapore is doomed!!

  8. One more into the rogues gallery. Renewal my ass. The only renewal is in their overflowing bank accounts. At last count, we have 1 PM, 2 DPMs and Ministers, 12 Ministers, 3 Ministers in PMO (increased by 1). The jia liao bee (toothpick) has moved to MOM, taken over by the keechiu, the new jia liao bee (no portfolio, head of NTUC being so onerous). So now toothpick must earn his million (no time to pilfer toothpicks) but can still feel so rich when he sees his CPF account.

Oh I forgot...we still have Emeritus Senior Minister (now this is a sinecure to die for). Next we will talk about Ministers of State, but that is another story.

      1 PM, 2 DPMs, 12 Ministers, 4 Ministers in PMO, 1 ESM

Blardy confusing all the changes, especially PMO!

  9. 19 bloated Ministers, and we lost count how many are jack-of-all-trades types that do ad-hoc projects or are just there to bolster his power votes.

  10. Just wondering whether he is merely paying lip service by appointing 2 Malay full Ministers just because election is around the corner?

Does he mean to say during normal times, they are not even good enough to produce 2 full ministers?

  11. //Just have to be right place, right time//

Being able to insert yourself in the right place at the right time, particularly after all the dirty works have been done by others already, then betraying the right set of people in the context of history can lead to very useful and powerful rise.

Not to mention, from time to time, suppressing democracy until repression is like making love, one could well be on the road to Guru-dom.

  14. Lui Tuck Yew, what can I say. On top of playing with cars, buses and trains, you get to play with guns, ships and planes. Relaks lah. Think of it, the caped masked Zorro now has to put on a hard hat! Picture him sucking on a toothpick to look more nonchalant and blue-collar. Chew on it, Lee Chee Chew ... and Leslie Chew.

  15. Just consider Masagos appointment will let go after the election if he can't win the Malay votes ?

How important can it really be with probably less than a year to hold on to it? Surely we can't be fools to believe him that it is an important achievement for the Malay race ?
