I Come To Praise Caesar, Not Bury Him

Henry Kissinger hailed him as a great man. And he was a close personal friend, a fact that Kissinger considers one of the great blessings of his life. A world needing to distill order from incipient chaos will miss his leadership. That's from the same Kissinger who also said "Power is the great aphrodisiac.” (New York Times, January 19, 1971)

Exactly why Kissinger is a darling embraced by legions of elite media, government, corporate and high society admirers is best attributed to the quote released by Wikileaks,"the illegal we do immediately; the unconstitutional takes a little longer".

Kissinger's most significant historical act was executing Richard Nixon's orders to conduct the worst massive bombing campaign of civilian targets in world history, covertly and illegally devastating thousands of non-combatant villages throughout areas of Cambodia. There is a word for the aerial mass murder that Henry Kissinger committed in Indochina, and that word is “evil”.

Kissinger the man will likely be remembered, if he is remembered at all, as the fellow best described by the novelist Joseph Heller in "Good As Gold":
“It was disgraceful and so discouraging … that this base figure charged with infamies too horrendous to measure and too numerous for listing should be gadding about gaily in chauffeured cars, instead of walking at Spandau with Rudolf Hess ... Asked about his role in the Cambodian war, in which an estimated five hundred thousand people died, he'd said: ‘I may have a lack of imagination, but I fail to see the moral issue involved.’"

Closer to home, U.S. President Gerald R. Ford and Kissinger pre-approved Suharto’s invasion of East Timor in 1975, telling the dictator that "It is important that whatever you do succeeds quickly." By the time the Indonesian occupation finally ended in 1999, 200,000 Timorese – 30 percent of the population – had been wiped out.

For a huge variety of well justified reasons, Henry Kissinger is believed by millions to be one of the single most evil individuals still living, or to have ever lived. So, if you want your praises to be sung, choose carefully.

  2. Of course if you read the whole obituary in Washington Post, you will also spot this: "in the end, he insisted that without the US, there could be no stability"... one wonders what was the quid pro quo. Anyway, if georgie boy was still "surprised" when daddy correctly "predicted" the fall of Congress Party in India, wonder no more, because Uncle Sam was in a position to dictate regime change in India. Why? Same reason per Ukraine: a right wing BJP suited American foreign policy against a rising China far better than a left-winged, almost anti American Congress. Helps alot too that instead of buying MIG 29s, BJP bought some american military toys, like you know, the Saudis, the jowdies, and the small ...

  3. "To have a meaningful discussion, you have to begin with the premise that serious people are trying to do the best for their country."

Sounds familiar? Ipso facto, their actions can be excused as long as it's for the greater good.

Both are 91yo and good friends. The difference between HK and LKY, is that their geographical and demanding vs docile audiences are different. I believe this man still has several warrants for him out there.

  4. The Man was and is awe inspiring to many.
He was extremely confident and audacious to me, clearly ruthless and naturally intellectual. A Man that few other Sinkies can match.
The Sad Eventual Result is that the Success that he had made will have to follow him, for there is no equal calibre to keep the Momentum going and sustains or build the Success further.

It is not unreasonable to suspect that there coukd be strife within the Rulers soon and the Only Man who could hold sway and keep the Pack together is no more around and none to take His Place. It is also in the Nature of Man to covet and fight for supremacy each time a leader is gone. It is so throughout history.

    1. My apology.

'It is not unreasonable to suspect that there coukd be strife within the Rulers soon AND the Only Man..........'. Should read as:-
It is not unreasonable to suspect or expect that there could be strife within the Rulers soon AS the Only Man who could hold sway and keep the Pack together is no more around and none to take His Place.

  5. Ex public figures of the west live well despite their low salaries not because they write books but because they lobby for dictators that need their endorsement. Its a big business. Like rating agencies, US news ratings and survey, their comments are as valuable as the paper they are printed on.

    1. You are suggesting Bill is thinking of adding Singapore to his lecture circuit? More likely, he's milking the event to support his wife's presidential bid. The youngsters who don't know about Chia Thye Poh probably won't know about how Monica Lewinsky was penetrated by a cigar either.

    2. In other words, these words of praise are mostly lies used to build a myth. Its a public relations act, the scoundrel gets to rebuild his name, another scoundrel gets paid(tours, "consulting"). Construction and defense projects are the best. Let not forget the fools(90%), they get the best bit, a fairy tale to comfort their yoke.

  6. Sometimes it is the off-hand remark that tells us everything we need to know about a person. "Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac" pretty much tells you everything about HK's motivation. One wonders if all sins can be forgiven. Perhaps God consults the ones who have been hurt and killed by HK's actions before he makes his judgement. In any case forgiveness is dependent on repentance. I doubt HK is repentant.

  7. Henry Kissinger is a war criminal. And both him and LKY are members of the insidious Council on Foreign Relations.

It is human nature to want to praise your own kind.

  9. They come only to praise him, including the war criminal Kissinger who said "It is an act of insanity and national humiliation to have a law prohibiting the President from ordering assassination." Given his way, he would probably sanction all his enemies. Well, like minds think alike.

When Low Thia Kiang, in his tribute to LKY, mentioned his warts and pimples, they all combined to slam him as insensitive and bringing politics in. What do you call glorifying him and blitzing the media every day with the one sided account of his fight against the Communist bogeyman, to kick start their General Election campaign?

And we have the shameless Khaw boasting “When we planned this one week of national mourning, we of course expected a tremendous outpouring of emotions. But the reality exceeded our expectations.” Don't count your ̶c̶o̶w̶s̶ chickens yet, because we remember "The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones."
