Racists Within The Ranks

It looks like Seng Han Thong (MP, Ang Mo Kio GRC) is under fire again (figuratively! figuratively!). And he deserves to be flamed (figuratively! figuratively!) for upsetting the poor lady Halimah Jacob by insinuating that her minority ethnic group is linguistically challenged - "they're Malay, they are Indian, they can't converse in English ... well enough". Han must be either deaf or sleeping in parliament whenever Lim Swee Say murders the English language in public.

Maybe SMRT, in all their high and mighty-ness, also perceives Singaporeans as incapable of reading into the racist smear. SMRT had said in defence: "At no point did Mr Goh highlight any particular race in his remarks." Have the Malay and Indian races of Singapore been eradicted as ethnic components of our society to be replaced by the favoured Foreigners? Will the Chinese racial group be next to go?

Minister of State (Community Development, Youth and Sports) Halimah Jacob was spot on when she fingered the malaise in the elite upper ruling class: "I am reminded of how employers in the past sometimes try to pin the blame on the lowest level workers as a way of deflecting responsibility from the management whenever a major problem occurs." Instead of derailing the SMRT top executives, a bunch of clowns that has yet to come up with a solution for the third rail power supply problem, the lower echelons are prepared to as sacrificial lambs - just like in the Mas Selamat case. If there is an iota of integrity in their veins, their CEO Saw should be fired (literally! literally!) instead.

  2. I enjoy reading your articles. Worth reading a few more times :)

Note that: Halimah Yacob, 56, was a Board Member of SMRT Corporation Ltd from 8 October 2007 to 21 May 2011. She was appointed as Minister of State for the Ministry of Community Development Youth & Sports on 21 May 2011. She was formerly the Deputy Secretary General
of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the
Executive Secretary of the United Workers of Electrical
    and Electronics Industries.

She and Ong Ye Kung are hold/held key appointments in NTUC and SMRT.

Note further that: Koh Yong Guan, 64, is Chairman of SMRT Corporation Ltd. He is also Chairman of the Central Provident Fund Board, and a member of the Board of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.

The SMRT Corporation reeks of cronyism. It is not about what you know, but who you know. Even the CEO who has no relevant experience can be made CEO of a public transport company. Both Saw and Ho graduated from NUS just maybe two years apart.

  3. Remember LKY once said "I would say today, we can integrate all religions and races except Islam " in Lee Kuan Yew: Hard Truths to Keep Singapore Going".

So consciously or unconsciously, did this MP actually tried to imply that SMRT wouldn't have any communication problems if our Malay & Indian train officers had been fluent in English ?

In all similarity and style, are they both trying to find a convenient scapegoat to exonerate their failures under their collective responsibilities as our leaders ?

  5. Make it simple, if Lim Sweet Say and Seng Hantu are not Chinese, anyone think they will be in their positions today?

  6. Msn Halimah is spot on when she identified the malaise. Yet her colleagues keep wondering why there are some jobs Singaporeans don't want to take up. Foreign workers were not aware and took up the opportunities, with debt. When they realised... lan lan. Do or have their work permit cancelled and sent back.

  7. The quality of those PAP members is real deteriorating. Few weeks ago, it was someone labeling a group of students terrorists. Now, it is an MP hinting that Malays and Indians can't speak good English. He must be sleeping all this while. Ask him to visit our university, you can see a lot of Indians in the law faculty. If their English is lousy, how can they study law? All of these people are dinosaurs like the Senior Lee getting more and more out of touch.

PAP Should Focus On Solving Problem, Stop Distracting Attention Away From Its Faults By Blurting Out All Sorts Of Remarks. Worse Still, Before Problem Is Solved, You Create Your Own 'New' Problem

  9. I share the same view as Eng Hou. The quality of our MPs and Ministers seems to have taken a downturn lately. I hope the pay review will take this into consideration.
