Hear Only The Good Stuff

The Prime Minister has issued a press statement on the Punggol East by-election; barring further adverse developments and unforeseen circumstances, Polling Day will be held on Jan 26.

What he said:

1. After Mr Michael Palmer resigned on 12 Dec 2012 as Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament (MP) for Punggol East constituency, my first priority was to look after the residents of Punggol East. Minister of State/Mayor Teo Ser Luck has been overseeing the constituency, while Mr Zainal Sapari has been chairing the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council. DPM Teo Chee Hean has also taken a personal interest in the residents' welfare.
What we heard: Three guys to do the job of one, still cannot manage - maybe their pay can be reduced further;

What he said:
2. We have a busy national agenda this year. The White Paper on Population will soon be debated in Parliament. Budget 2013 is around the corner. The Our Singapore Conversation is translating the views of citizens into programmes to improve our lives. Sustaining economic growth and raising workers' incomes is a continuing preoccupation, especially in a weak global economy.
What we heard: The people will be upset when the economy really tanks - they can tweak the numbers to avoid another technical recession only so many times - better get on the by-election while the sun is still shining;

What he said:
3. I have decided to hold a by-election in Punggol East to give the residents their own MP in Parliament, before we focus back on these national issues. So today I advised the President to issue the Writ of Election.
What we heard: Them national issues never seem to go away, might as well bite the bullet before another skeleton is unearthed;

What he said:
4. I hope Punggol East residents will vote for the candidate who can best represent them in Parliament, solve their problems and improve their lives.
What we heard: Finally, we get to elect someone who will voice our problems in parliament and improve our lives. Maybe. Keep your fingers crossed.

  2. fucker lhl is just self promoting. how different is the doctor from palmer?

nothing. worse. the doctor needs to wait for lhl order to contest and has no drive to contest on his own. if he is elected, it will be another sleeper in parliament. given he has so many duties outside parliament.

  3. Me says the Constituents of Punggol East are very lucky Singaporeans, the focus are all on them. Their choice in picking their Member Of Parliament will be the gauge and display of how Singaporeans on average want to be ruled.

PAP has been calling the shots for near 5 decades, long and good enough to be equated as Sin itself or at least equals to as the Owner Of Sin. Some are beholden to it(PAP) while almost all Sinkies are at its' control and mercy.

Punggol Voters have the opportunity to show other Singaporeans that it is time to have a change and change is possible. And change does not depend on how many political parties contesting in the By Election. It depends on how balance the Cabinet(Gov) is composed of between the Ruling Party and the other Political Parties. There is always the need and it is imperative not to give absolute power to a single party or individual.

Punggol Voters will face dilemma in picking their choice if there happens to have multiple parties to choose. This problem can be overcome by weeding out those parties that are too small, had and or are having dictatorial leader and those unlikely to have bargaining power even if elected.

To cut it short, Voters can narrow down their picks from 2 most prominent parties and leave out the Rest. By the way, those leaders in the small(size and stature) patties are unlikely to make good national leaders. Most of them are by nature egoistic and are incapable of working with others. Most of them only want to be chieftains and not to look after others.

    1. Yep, that's the problem with us, humans, isn't it. Sometimes the ego is so big that we cannot see what's in front of us. I look at comments by the SDA and sometimes, I wonder which planet this guy lives on.

    2. WP is not unlike the PAP at fixing the opposition. WP was so successful in fixing the SDA at the last GE by spreading all sorts of nasty lies (e.g. being a PAP mole) about Desmond Lim that till now, most Singaporeans believe that Desmond Lim was the culprit in the three-corner fight. Singaporeans indeed have "light" ears. No wonder LKY called Singaporeans daft.

  5. Does anyone else see how childish PM's statement was? Essentially he's saying :

"You idiots. Don't you realise how busy I am running the country? Sigh .. I've got so many endless and big things to handle. @#$%@$#% (cursing ..) and everyone is saying I have to call a stupid by-election. Do you know that this will distract me and everyone else from all the bigger and more important things I have to do? @#$%@#$% (curse and swear again)"

Its utterly lacking in respect for the law and for the people. You will never hear this kind of contemptous words from leaders like Obama. They know that they're elected by the people and are accountable to the people. The grace is utterly lacking in this case. And the PM still talk about "character", "values", "gracious society" ??

    1. President Obama is paid so much less than PM Lee.
And look at the amount of problems Obama had to manage since he took over in Oct 2008.

Singapore is smaller than New York City for fark's sake.
And still we hear our PM whine about his workload.

Sounds like a rehash of this May 3, 2006 quote:

"Right now we have Low Thia Khiang, Chiam See Tong, Steve Chia. We can deal with them. Suppose you had 10, 15, 20 opposition members in Parliament. Instead of spending my time thinking what is the right policy for Singapore, I'm going to spend all my time thinking what's the right way to fix them, to buy my supporters votes, how can I solve this week's problem and forget about next year's challenges?"

A colo-rectal surgeon wants to be an MP?
For a joker like me, this is a paradise of material for jokes.

Talk about passing the shit around.
His surgical skills will be useful in loosening up all the tight sphincters in his political party.

Loosen up the sphincters and let the shit flow.

  7. PAP-MIW Joke
    ------------

When the Body (Pro Alien Party) was first created, everybody wanted to be the Boss.
The brain said, "I should be Boss because I control all of the body's responses and functions."

The feet said, "We should be Boss since we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go."

The hands said, "We should be the Boss because we do all the work and earn all the money."

    Finally, the asshole spoke up.
All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss.
So, the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work.

Within a short time, the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic, and the brain fevered.
Eventually, they all decided that the asshole should be the Boss, so the motion was passed. All the other parts did all the work while the Boss just sat and passed out the shit!

    Moral Of The Story:
You don't need a brain to be a Boss----any asshole will do.

What a change in tune. Recall when YSL case happened and HG residents ask for BE, the PM said "WP has brought this upon themselves" and dragged his feet. Now that MP case has happened, he says he will give PE residents their own MP. I can only hope PE voters have half the smartness and courage of the HG people and not fall for the political hypocrisy of PAP to placate the people. Good luck to them.

  15. Suddenly we see for ourselves there is a sudden surge of needy people in Punggol that PAP wants to help. It is as if other needy people in the other constituencies can wait their turn for help for another by-election if it happens. Or that there are no needy people in the other constituencies?

What kind of sheer hypocrisy is that, PAP?

LHL should spend time fixing his own pap party and screw up ministers! As they are causing him more pain in the ass problems...

And LHL got a degree in math? Sure or not...the guy is illogical as hell!

  17. I went a few years ago to a financial analysis breakfast put on by the Financial Times in London: it was held at the lowest ebb in what would soon reveal itself to be the biggest economic recession since the thirties. A bunch of verbose consultant-types were trying to compete with each other for the cleverest theories about How We Got Here and What We Do Next.

A man in the audience stood up. He introduced himself quietly and simply as ‘a banker.’ He was clearly not going to get any love from this crowd, and he knew it. He said the following, surprisingly without any grandstanding or pathos:

“I have some news for you all. We are not in the middle of an economic crisis. We are in the middle of a moral crisis, and our economic decline is merely a symptom of our moral decline. I know being angry at me feels easier. But it is ourselves that we are really angry at.”

    Silence filled the room.

Workers Party can and will win the Punggol East seat against the PAP if the other Political Parties do not join in the fray. With about 45% of the votes at last showing, this achievement is quite obvious. I will definitely give my support to the Workers Party. SDP may want to but should not contest Punggol East this time round, SDP will not stand a chance, any other party that joins the fray may not only loss their deposit but also goodwill, don't believe, haha, at the next GE, there is going to be alot of bad blood, one or two will go the way of the dodo.
Whether the Workers Party wins or loss this contest it will not dent it's moral, the PAP will still continue to ride roughshod with or without any help.
If there's a mole, I'll say it's the Reform Party.
