They Didn't Listen

Debunking Teo Chee Hean's Facebook post about the Workers' Party (WP) staying silent on important issues, WP's Low Thia Khiang told the thousands gathered: It is not true WP has not taken a position on major issues, it is the People's Action Party (PAP) Government that has turned a deaf ear to its views and suggestions. To which we may add, and the views and suggestions of Singaporeans island wide. Refreshing Teo's glitchy memory banks, Low  pointed out he had spoken on the foreign worker issue during the Manpower Ministry's Committee of Supply debate, and  a whole chapter in the WP's 2011 party manifesto is devoted to population and immigration.

One illustration of deaf ears was the point of concern raised by Low in Parliament in 2010, to ensure  wet markets and hawker centers continue to provide low cost market produce and food options for citizens. He had urged the government to stop the new trend of releasing land for tender by private developers and instead let NEA continue operating markets and food centres. The Minister's cavalier response: “the Government sets aside land in the new towns for commercial development by the private sector. This gives private operators the flexibility to decide on the type of eating and marketing facilities to meet the changing needs of residents.” Now that's a lesson in selective listening.

One PAP stalwart apparently does not even listen to himself if the truth was unpalatable. Ajunied Hougang Town Council (AHTC) chairperson Sylvia Lim read out Teo Ho Pin's December statement for the benefit of the many listening ears assembled at WP's last by-election rally at Punggol East,  “After GE2011, the software contract with AIM remained in place for the PAP TCs. However, AIM decided to end the contract with the Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC).”

It was the PAP HQ which issued the earlier rejoinder on the AIM saga on behalf of Teo, probably determined to protect his nether orifice from probed now that the Prime Minister has called for a review of the conundrum. It is quite obvious Teo is not the only one in dire need to be fitted with a hearing aid. Ms Lim could not resist a dig at Teo's selective recall, “So, I don’t know what Dr Teo is trying to say.”

Even the colorectal surgeon has turned deaf to his earlier vociferous boast of running his own campaign. By one count, at least six more members of parliament (MPs) are making nuisance of themselves, knocking on doors and disturbing the peace and quiet of Punggol residents. This is on top of the eight other MPs distributing junk mail on Tuesday. Ellen Lee (Sembawang GRC) saw it as "a  waste of energies if we're just around sitting and doing nothing." Double confirmed, except during elections, that bunch was "just around sitting and doing nothing."

  1. The engagement of other PAP bigwigs in Punggol BE is a sign that PAP is fearful of the WP opposition winning this. It is exactly the same strategy they used for Chengsan. Who knows? If Punggol East is won by the PAP, they may, like Chengsan, redraw the electoral boundaries of Punggol East to be part of Sembawang or AMK. LOL

  2. PAP is dishing goodies only during election time to boost their votes. Party interest above national interest. Even Dr Koh Poh Koon has to skip his NS duties for the party. Why does Mindef even allow him to do that?

  3. PAP appointed Generals in charge...

Think these Generals ONLY know how to fight for PAP...

Not fight for Singapore and its peoples.

    Sad.

  4. Why tell everybody that the PAP man is running his own campaign and afterwards bring so many bigwigs into the campaigning, tells us that the situation is not that rosy for the PAP. It is a sign we have seen before.

But that might again be a
blessing in disguise for the WP, if what happened in Hougang and Aljunied GRC is going to repeat itself. The bigger the guns they bring out, it will never beat 'people power' stirred up, energised and invigorated by the WP that is sweeping the political landscape in Singapore.

  5. PAP is getting jittery. With so many big guns going to PE suggest something is not quite right for their candidate. He is disconnected. Talk cock and no real feel for people on the ground. Goodies are thrown well before Budget Day. Think Tharman may as well skip his speach. Panic is the order of the day for PAP. No chance already.

  6. Haha......

Think they can put all their PAP Parliamentarians to canvass at Punggol East. Doubt that is going to make any difference to the By Election Result.

Singaporeans in the Whole Island know that they had been taken for granted. Though some were hopeful and believed that the Prime Ministers' Apology before GE 2011 was sincere, nothing has changed since then. If there was any, it was change from bad to WORSE.

Cost of living continue to spiral up, price of property been the most constant. Foreigners are said to be very much needed and the people are constantly reminded that we need them and goaded to accommodate them. And train disruptions have become more frequent despite more top talents got involved to settle it. WORST OF ALL THE MESSES WAS AIMGATE AND ALL SINGAPOREANS ARE AWAITING FOR A GOOD EXPLANATION.

Workers Party has been said by PAP Members to have failed to raise issues at Parliament Meetings. SO FUNNY THAT THOSE CAUSING THE PROBLEMS ARE ACCUSING OTHERS OF NOT RAISING THEM. STRANGELY THEY WERE RAISED BUT THE MEMBERS TURNED THEMSELVES INTO DEAF FROGS, LOL.

Anyway, the Voters at Punggol East are as affected as All their Fellow Singaporeans by the Policies. This By Election is one rare opportunity for them to concretely protest against the poor performances, for themselves as WELL AD ON BEHALF OF ALL NATIVE SINGAPOREANS.

THE PUNGGOL EAST VOTERS WILL DELIVER US THE GOOD NEWS ON 26 JANUARY 2013 BY ELECTING MS LEE LI LIAN OF THE WORKERS PARTY AS THEIR MP.

    CHEERS!

    1. Its just like a bad son causing all the troubles at home and outside THEN blame the maid for not telling them not to do bad. Meanwhile, the father and the rest of the house said nothing. Hello, where is the logic?

  7. Maybe this Teo is suffering from dementia and alzeheimers disease? Perhaps time for him to go for a doctor checkup. Maybe we will have another BE and more dishing out of goodies from the ruling party.

  8. PAP has suffered form dementia for a very long time.

Anyway I am not too positive about the PAP since Madam PAP died 2 years ago. Sincer her death, PAP running around like "siow kows". Do you agree? If yes please repeat after me.

    PAPO running like siow kow.

Who is the bigegst siow kow in the PAP?

  9. If PAP is suffering from dementia;
Then there will lots of business for the arsehole doctor.
    You know.
PAPigs' brains are located in their arseholes.

  10. PAP is kuning (army term for sleeping, not the fish that the pantat doctor shared with his family of 7). LTK said co-driver must slap the sleepy driver to wake him up, so vote WP. Notice that in Parliamentary sittings, less than half attend, and those attending are sleeping.

If the Teo's are suffering from selective amnesia, cannot excuse. If suffering from dementia, a medical condition, ok excusable. Take some virgin coconut oil, can improve.

    1. This is the problem when one party dominate the parliament. Issues had already resolved internally and hearing the other guys repeat his position (which happens to be the party position) is boring. Thats why even few who are made to attend fell asleep. Boring, boring. One more thing, those who present have no passion. It is like reading from a text given. Wayang lah.

At least Ellen Lee was honest enough to tell the truth that these MPs were just sitting around doing nothing.

In the first place, they should be busy in their respective constituency doing their utmost best for the people who had elected them to office to give of their best. Instead, they were kaypohing in someone else's backyard which in the first place has nothing to do with them.

You know what, I think the only person that should be there helping out is Michael Palmer. He owed it to the electorates in Punggol East. He is the best, was the best or should we say, next to the best person. But how could he be presented to the public to remind them of what he and his Party stood for.

Oh, sorry I forgot that he was also not to be found in his own yard when he was in office but was found loitering in another backyard too. You do not have to believe me. You may want to check with the 54.54% of electorates (to be exact 16,994 electorates) who rooted for him in the 2011 General Election. But they may not be forthcoming with their answers.

Alternatively, you could check with his wife. But alas, he could not be found. She was searching high and low for him too.

  12. Even if WP loses this by-election, it doesn't really matter. Those kind of overwhelming support for their election rallies is already enough proof that WP is slowly & surely winning the hearts of the people, enough to scare PAP out of their shit.

PAP on the other hand even if they win, did not put up a real gentlemen's fight, using all kinds of their usual dirty political tricks. Even though that their public image now is already getting from bad to worse and yet they are still acting so arrogant. It's no wonder that nowadays whenever we hear PAP, the name by itself already tulan to hear.

    Just my 2 cents.
