SMRT Stinks

Near verbatim transcript of Briton Anton Casey's effluvial riposte:

"Before we start this journey together it is important for you to understand. I don't mean to offend anyone. Don't be offended, don't be angry at me. Be angry at your mom and dad, for raising you a wuss. Taadaa!"

Like thousands of others, resident foreign talent Casey has a bitch about Singapore's public transportation system. No, it's not about the fare hike and the frequency of breakdowns. Casey had to send his Porsche to the workshop and downgrade to an alternative malodorous mode of travel to his day job as Senior Portfolio Manager (Team Leader), HSBC International Banking Centre.

My friend's wife knew it was a bad move her husband bought a Ferrari when she overheard her son's exchange at the kindergarten playground:
"Did you come to school in the sports car?"
"Nah, we used mom's crappy Japanese SUV."

So who's the retard, father or son?

How much can you trust the political party he founded?
Do you think you can depend on his political party to improve the lives of Singaporeans?

  17. 3. —(1) A seditious tendency is a tendency —

    (b) to excite the citizens of Singapore or the residents in Singapore to attempt to procure in Singapore, the alteration, otherwise than by lawful means, of any matter as by law established;

  19. What can we do if this country stoops so low in order to grow its economy and punch above its weight? I'm not surprised if there are silent supporters of Anton Casey who are commiserating with his predicament. Yes, they probably think that those of us who take the MRT stink too?

    1. Ah! But which political party is responsible for managing our economy to the point when we need people who clearly despise us to bring us economic growth?

We are asked to sacrifice everything to make Singapore better.

Those who take public transport have no dignity and worse are those who have to apply for fare vouchers or concessions! And being the wusses that they are, they will continue to elect the party to screw and squeeze them.

  20. He's not worth a second of our time and attention.

Anyone who thinks a car makes a man, and he has just One car, only a Porsche, is obviously terribly insecure. Can't blame him, considering his lack of looks and body. And from what he says, he's also a pretty shallow person.

  22. Waaaaaah! This wuss has powerful friends even at SPH.
This is how the shitty times reported his "apology":
"I deeply regret having offended and disrepected the people of Singapore.
I wish for nothing more than to be forgiven for my poor judgement and given a second chance to rebuild the trust people have had in me as a resident of this wonderful country."

This is what he actually wrote:
"I have offended and disrespected the people of Singapore, my family – especially my five-year-old son. He is an innocent party to this unfortunate and extremely stressful situation.
I wish for nothing more than to be forgiven for my poor judgement and given a second chance to rebuild the trust people had in me as a resident of this City – specifically for my family."

Plus the subtle threat he has made a police report against his detractors.

Meanwhile a Singaporean has been arrested for the poor judgement of making up a Jiak Liao Bee picture on his Facebook account. Which the police is using against him as "evidence".

Teo Chee Hean was quick to repatriate the Indian "rioters", will he act against Anton Casey? No way, he needs the guy to make up the 6.9 million.

  23. I agree - its worthless throwing accusations and stooping low to fight on insults - its primitive neardenthalesque white-man thing to want to punch below the navel.

The issue for red dotters is what makes the SMRT appear "to stink" when just 10 years ago, people were boasting it was better than HK's MTR. And whether anyone up there really wants to see light at the end of the SMRT tunnel.

The often cited GKS philosophy is copy from others who had the same problem. Here the best place to learn from is the HK MTR, which has moved on and up, improved, and now manages some of the world's busiest and most reliable train networks from Germany to New York, while the crony-led temasek-owned SMRT flounders and sinks into stench.

Unfortunately instead of asking the logical question of ow the SMRT and MTR differs. Lui went to MTR, returned to say "nothing to learn - we are different". And JT went on another jolly trip to Taiwan, came back and say to improve transport service, operators must pay better and problems will solve itself. So after the wayang, the taxpayers have to dole out a billion $, followed by incessant fare hikes that will go on for years, justified by another crony-led PTC. And so the elites' solution to the transportation problems, instead of drawing lessons from how MTR improves its maintenance and reliability, to throw more taxpayers' money at the issues - change everything and spend lots of money, boost GDP and stretch out the problem to spend even more in years to come. Of course the unspoken agenda is to enrich themselves (lots of papigs own real estate along the new lines) and their cronies (lots are contractors, cleaning, M&E works etc) along the way. Must not let a good crisis go to waster, must milk it to the maximum, like Chandra Das and his GCB-owning Papigs always know how to do. Worst of all, the elites don't consider the breakdowns and other transportation issues as a "problem". because GDP is boosted to load their pockets, cronies get lucrative contracts, and of course they travel via Merc, Porshe, Lambos etc.

The problems in SMRT all have solutions, its mechanical or electrical or control systems. If NY London and Paris tubes which are far more complex and all over 100 years are more reliable, SMRT can do better and easily, if only the problem is tackled head on rather than seen as another chance for the elites to milk the system. So if you wonder why Sor is replaced by a bunch of generals instead of someone from MTR or people with real experience on running mass rapid systems, don't hurt your brain by thinking too hard..

  24. Where is sniffer Lui Tuck Yew? With his acute olfactory nerves, which came into prominence in the Little India riot, he cannot smell the stench in his own backyard? Or his snout can only detect the presence of alcohol and not the odour of a mass of humanity in his packed trains?

    1. The message is very clear. Get off your butt and do something about your overcrowded trains, then you won't have these ang mohs bad mouthing your transport system. And it is not just by building more lines. The solution is actually very simple - cut down the number of foreigners in this red dot. Taadaa!
