The Sham Going On In Parliament

When you bring a knife to a fight, you have to make sure it is sharp. When you bring a gun, make sure there's a round in the chamber. And if you pass a chart around for ammunition - this has to be most embarrassing for trained lawyer - the data had better be checked and double checked.

The lady was trying to be helpful, and provide an opportunity to correct the boo-boo. “From what I know, MA rates are usually different from residential units and commercial units,” Ms Sylvia Lim volunteered. “But in your chart, they are all the same."

If his face flushed red, it was difficult to tell. It has nothing to do with his skin pigmentation, he was plain black as coal with self righteous indignation that day in parliament. Without hesitation, Shanmugam growled his immediate response, “I can answer your answer straight away. You should look at annex 3 and you will see in the first page that the MA rates once they are done on a weighted average basis, these figures are accurate, [I’m] told by MND.” Notice that last tai-ji bit, when all else is lost, he can still blame it on another ministry. Same way Alvin Yeo threw his clerk under the bus for over-invoicing.

No wonder Pritam Singh prefers to talk to his residents. Residents which could produce the smoking gun to the lying lawyer's duplicity about accuracy. No matter what weightage is used in averaging, the two sets of rates for residential and commercial property can't possibly be identical. It would appear that only the numbers for Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council are non-bogus.

The infuriating part is that not a single one of the minister's colleagues bothered to whisper to his ears and save him from committing credibility suicide. Including the minister for education who took up a full page of the now 153rd ranked newspaper to wax lyrical about betraying residents' trust, and boasting "the real check in this instance came from the Government." If this is the kind of fact check Heng Swee Keat is proud about, we might as well dismiss the upcoming budget tables altogether, and skip straight to the comics section.

The real comic in the house has to be Khaw Boon Wan, who put on his best poker face to declare, "I am also a very religious man. So, where possible, I try to help. Whoever. Doesn't matter. ...If you are honest, you are clean, I would do my best to help you." By not helping Shanmugam in his moment of need - the flawed tabulation was attributed to his MND ministry -  the logical inference is that one of them is definitely dishonest.

  1. Someone has pointed out that the latest MA rate for Pasir Ris-Punggol is the LOWEST in recent years.

    2011 - $6.11
    2012 - $6.20
    2013 - $6.25
    2014 - $5.50 <---

I understand that the TC never passed the savings along to its residents. The rate residents paid probably went up!

Will Shanmugam call for an investigation into the MAGate?

    1. Also note that 500,000 households S&C charges were raised 12% not too long ago...where did the money go to if MA fee was lowered.

  2. Khaw and Shanmugam were disingenuous to say that the Managing Agent of AHPETC overcharged for 4 years (6.4 million) when the PAP rate was inexplicably lowered in 2014 - the chart they showed. So even if the chart was accurate, only 1 year was overcharged. These sanctimonious assholes take us all for fools with their dirty tricks and ploys.

  3. When it comes to saving one's backside, which amongst these people will stand up for others? You always have to be cynical of those who use their religion in politics. Everyone seems to miss the whole point of having the parliamentary pseudo drama. It is a favourite device of LKY when he will defame his opponents without fear of a lawsuit being given the defence of parliamentary privilege. Only those without the courage of their convictions will hide behind this. I dare say that none of the heroes in Parliament lambasting the WP will have the courage to repeat their wild accusations outside.

Unfortunately, many MSM readers/viewers will be misled by their claims. MSM has been their favorite weapon to stay in power.

  7. That's show that these ministers are not involved nor bothered with the running of the TCs! Can't even tell or suspect when there is something not right. See how they take it lightly with the heartlanders. I think not only Khaw but all the rest don't even know there is something not right!

  8. These bloody PAPPIES are a bunch of dirty dogs basically. If Town Councils have excess funds to invest in risky bonds, it can only mean that residents in PAP held wards have been overcharged all these years, aren't they?

What business is it for PAP Town Councils tp overcharge residents to the point that they don't even know what to do with their excess funds ? This alone can already accuse our PAP leaders of cheating their constituents isn't it because according to PAP themselves Town Councils are not supposed to profit from collection of conservancy charges.

So what the fuck are they alleging WP of improper conduct when they themselves are guilty of overcharging their own constituents?

  9. So this is our Foreign Minister who is negotiating all these trade pacts agreement, trading our livelihoods away with this kind of data and fact checks that he can muster? WE ought to be worried. He may have the glib of tongue and the gravitas of a threatening lawyer, but his bite lacks any substantial punch.

And he hasn't stand corrected yet, has he? Does this sort of incompetency warrant a Hara-khaw-ri?

  11. The shocking part is that big mistakes (even if it was massaged data, it deserved a little bit more scrutiny right?) like these can go unchecked, undetected through the entire hierachy from staff oppicers all the way to DS and PS and presented in parliament as "facts": You know the rot is so damining they cannot even be bothered to lie properly to the masses. And we wondered why lui said garmen subsidize heavily, gan insist garmen is spending more on patients subsidies etc.

    1. Shouldn't blame the bureaucracy and officers. They are probably instructed to come up with data to discredit the WP. Make them look bad.

  12. I think PAP Millionaire Sham-mugam is not very constructive in his criticism of AHPTEC.
Why does he not offer constructive solutions?
PAP always ask for constructive criticism and constructive solutions from its critics.

"The party would withdraw services to the two opposition-held seats of Anson and Potong Pasir, and if all of Singapore votes us out, we withdraw all services everywhere and entirely."

It's not as if the old fart never warned Singaporeans about what he will do if PAP gets voted out.
We just didn't believe him because we thought he was such a nice man.

This is enough to tie the hands... and since it will be humanly impossible to meet the target dates of 30 August 2015, elections will be called after that date.

It will give them the fodder, ammunition to accuse incompetency, theft and it will go on ad nauseum even way past elections.

A blunt tool, it will be the Achilles heel to the WP.
It is now dependent on the voter's beliefs.

  18. Sham, Shame, Shameless are first cousins. Khaw missed out on the one thing, that true leaders have the galls to take on responsibility squarely, and not compare oneself with the concept of Japanese honour. Cowards on the other hand, choose to deny and hide, and let their subordinates take the fall on their behalf.

  19. It was a real blessing that the Law Minister did not take the hint from MP Slyvia Lim to say that he will re-check . Now of course, his only escape is to push the blame to the MND . But that is very Ungentlemanly , right ? Hold it ! What a stupid question I have just asked .
