Don't Insult Hougang

For two decades Hougang had to put up with second class treatment, sand was kicked into their faces by the bully on the beach. They were perennially placed at the bottom of the list when it came to Lift Upgrading Programs (LUP), projects financed by public money, not the private coffers of the incumbent political party.

In 2010 Low Thia Khiang exposed the duplicity of state funds allocated for Interim Upgrading Program (IUP), Main Upgrading Program (MUP) and CIPC (Community Improvement Projects Committee) when he challenged Senior Minister of State Grace Fu to show the public how much additional funding each PAP Town Council had received through the various upgrading programs funded through the national budget. The disgraceful minister of state clammed up in a hurry. The light of truth has a tendency to do that when shined on dark intentions.

Stopping short of asking them to repent during GE 2011, MM Lee even alleged Hougang flat values are lower compared to that of similar flats in neighbouring areas because they belong to an opposition ward. "If you have the wrong government, your property prices go right down. Ask why in Hougang the property prices are not as high as their neighbours," he sneered.

Hougang is living proof that Singaporeans can carry on without the presence of the bully boys. Its 37,407 residents go to work, raise children, take care of their elders and serve NS, all without having to bow and scrape to the white attired. Sure they had to walk the extra kilometer, heads held high, after their wet market was bulldozed to the ground, but their families need not starve. Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was right when he said what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

DPM Teo insulted the 243,368 voters there when he suggested that Hougang could have "two MPs for the price of one". That's not even original, a plagiarism of Low Thia Khiang's brilliant strategy for securing the Aljunied beachhead. Perhaps Teo has already seen the future, when the reversal of fortunes finally come about, and top dog becomes real underdog. Forget what they are blabbering on about a "local contest". This by-election is a watershed opportunity to send them a national message. A nation is demanding to have its identity back, cleansed of the dilutants eroding our original stake holding. It's time to put on the Les Miserables soundtrack:
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

  1. Well said. Many people have tremendous respect for Hougangers for being a league of its own for so long. With Mdm Vellama's move to challenge the constitution, this ward has gained more RESPECT. Even a cleaner (insert whatever occupation) has her rights and should not be trampled upon!

  2. They have the cheek to call it 'local contest' when the 'global contest' is unfolding everyday all around us in SMRT, workplace, healthcare, education. If this is not local and personal, I don't know what is. The video sums it up very well, even a monkey knows the difference.

DPM Teo said backhandedly "..both incumbents have left. So HG can vote freely.." Then he went on to say DC is really the underdog. Hougang residents have always had the penchant for voting in underdogs too...

In other words, he is trying to affirm the Consequent..

If you're an underdog, HG residents will love and vote for you.
    DC is an Underdog.
HG residents will vote for DC

Clearly, he has just insulted the intelligence of Hougang. #facepalm.

  4. Agree that we should not insult the intelligence of Hougang residents.

It is definitely not just a local contest. And the ruling party has yet to show that it will listen to the people nationally. The fact that only 33% elected a President supported by the ruling party suggests that people are still disgusted and angry.

The party is still in disengagement mode over the continuing issues of MRT breakdowns, and displacement of locals by so-called FTs which are also not only national issues but also local issues.

Than again they are shooting at their own foot to continue the PAP rule, NO?

    2. Vote for WP to speak for you in Parliament. Then you get PAP lackeys to do things for you. Since they boasted their GROs can get things done (don't even need to be an MP) so feel free to treat the GROs like NCMP lor..win-win.

  5. I really hope Hougang residents show PAP how pissed off we all are.
Whether it is a local or national contest are not to be decided by PAP or WP
Hougang residents WILL decide and I have a good feeling that PAP is pissing in its pants now.

  8. IPS immigration suggest another 25k-30k of new residents every year. That's equivalent to 1 Hougang constituency every year. If this one doesn't vote for PAP, the new ones in subsequent years will. Singaporean voters are replaceable..Can Be Done! Vote freely for the real Underdog (not Lapdog) into the Parliament.

  9. The MIWs think "every man has his price". IUP, MUP, CIPC. But there is this thing called Outrage - the people of Hougang are "singing a song of angry men". How can deaf frogs hear? So vote wisely that your voices may be heard.

Outrage: a powerful feeling of resentment or anger aroused by something perceived as an injury, insult, or injustice

  10. There are so many Teochews @ Hougang and that probably explain why Low is still much respected in Hougang.

But this Teo doesn't seems to understand that the Teochews are quite united except for that small elite group of Teochews who have forgotten their roots and try to form their own powerbase when their heads have grown too big to be just contented to taking orders from some historical clan association.

Now Teo is effectively sort of asking those Teochews @ Hougang to betray Low in exchange for some beneficial benefit in return. I suppose the only single thing he knows about Teochews is how to offer free Teochew porridge but doesn't understand that there is this thing called Teochew loyalty.

    1. People of HG should never accept food as reward. What more, cheap porridge. They are not dogs. Those PAP breeders can go elsewhere and adopt their foreign dogs and bitches. Especially those from Phillipines and China. So when their two countries start going to war, I will sit on the sideline and watch how the two hotblooded citizens slug at each other here. Your pink IC will be worthless to them when it comes to motherland.

  11. Perhaps all of us who seek to persuade the voters in Hougang to vote for Ah Huat, we should start a fund to be used for the betterment of our fellow citizens in Hougang in recognition of their fortitude in flying the flag these past 20 years together with the bravehearts from Potong Pasir. Until we are prepared to do so, it is all empty talk.

Time to slap the Driver for imposing so many not talented FTs into our limited SingLand, frequent SMRT breakdowns, policies for high medical, transport & housing costs while subsidizing "scholars", catering and making themselves also the rich, famous, powerful and treating SingLand as their PLAYGROUND, losing billions on questionable investments, etc.

Wow! Now all loyal, country loving HOUGANG voters can give a BIG, RESOUNDING SLAP on this insincere, rich DRIVER so that some sincere change may come.

SLAP! SLAP! SLAP! HOUGANG voters SingLand HEROS

  13. I have a very strong feeling the author doesn't live in Hougang. Thus, whatever happens there is no concern of his.

He is only interested in getting the residents of Hougang to vote against Desmond Choo. His interest is let the WP win. Does he really care for the residents of Hougang? NO. This is hatred.

    Stop spreading hatred please.

Anon 11.40pm is right. I've been a regular reader here and the quality of comments are high. In a democracy, everyone is entitled to express or pen their opinions, whether they are HG voters or not. If you have an opinion to share, feel free to focus on issues instead of resorting to ad hominen fallacy.

    4. The PAP has brought hatred on itself through it's reprehensible, unjust, disgraceful, duplicititious and discriminatory upgrading policies. Buying votes with tax-payers' money, and coming from the PM's own mouth, no less, just before GE2011:

"But you can do something about it, you know. You don't have to keep voting for people not in white-on-white."

Not only Hougang, but the whole of Singapore is outraged - in fact you lost more votes in Hougang than ever before. You pledge "to build a democratic society based on justice and equality" - what hypocrisy! Go Hougang, show the PAP that principles matter, that you cannot be bought! You are our bastion of hope for a better Singapore.

  14. Time to show respectability.....
Come May 26 the voters of HG will decide who should be their MP. The 2 potential main candidates are likely to be from PAP and WP. Both are deemed to be hardworking and dedicated public figures and will probably do their best for HG and for the country. As they prepare their respective campaigns to woo the voters of HG, there will be much fanfare and excitement. I believe both would like the contest to be fought in honorable "gentle man" manner, with each striving to sell their respective cases on own merits. Would the spore public, especially the online activists allow this to happen? Though it may be viewed as wishful thinking, i believe if we try hard enough thru our proactiveness, those wishing to resort to unsavory attacked and slanderous ways can be neutralized. Whichever side of the political divide you may be from, its about time we stand-up against folks who are out there to instigate and stir negative emotions against their opponents, rather than champion their causes based on merit of their candidates. I sincerely both main contending candidates can endorse this positive theme publicly.

I have a very strong feeling that Kenneth Koh is a bootlicker of the PAP. Go and sing your song to the MIW and you may get them to put you as a candidate to contest in a GRC in 2016. However, you must show LKY that you have at least 6 credits in your O-level results.

    Will he ask questions like;

1.When will we get back our CPF money in full?

2.How much money did Temasek and GIC lose in the 2008 financial crisis?

  20. There is no hatred for the PAP but absolute disappointment in their policies and the way they carry themselves. So, Singaporeans are trying to prepare for an alternative party to take over. Hence, pls vote WP to grow the opposition to be able to take over from the PAP. It is in Singaporeans self enlightened interest to do so.Adding another digit to the PAP absolute majority in parliament to not going to advance Singaporean interest.
