Outing The Bigots

A local paper is saying that Goldman Sachs here is making a specific recruitment call to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students. The company is saying that its planned LGBT recruitment and networking (indoor) dinner at its Singapore office is merely a platform for attendees to "discuss issues and concerns regarding being 'out' in the workplace".

Sympathetic voices chimed in to add that, given the labour crunch, companies should be mindful about closing doors on any specific group of people. After all, the official mantra has always been about welcoming one and all to the melting pot.

One minister flashed the homophobe card, declaring "Foreign companies here should respect local culture and context. They are entitled to decide and articulate their human resource policies, but they should not venture into public advocacy for causes that sow discord amongst Singaporeans." No, it was not the newly minted Manpower Minister speaking, it's the other general. As for discord, so long as the event is not a flag waving spectacle in a public plaza, no fair minded Singaporean will feel offended. Maybe some bigots, defined by Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, thus:
Bigotry is the state of mind of a bigot: someone who, as a result of their prejudices, treats or views other people with fear, distrust or hatred on the basis of a person's opinion, ethnicity, evaluative orientation, race, religion, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, or other characteristics.

Goldman Sachs is neither first nor unique in embracing diversity in the workplace. Credit Suisse and JP Morgan have had also organised LGBT networking programmes for employees in order "to have a good diversity of talent for their workplace, regardless of gender, sexuality or race". The minister had stressed that discrimination "whether based on race, language, religion or sexual orientation" has no place in our society. Same message, different words. So why has the minister gotten his knickers in a twist?

MyPaper provided the clue: Goldman Sachs is sponsoring the coming Pink Dot event next month. Officially Pink Dot is deemed a LGBT advocacy movement by the higher ups, not just another picnic in the park. And you thought that all you need to do to stay out of trouble is to apply for a police permit.

    1. Don't be an idiot trying to look at everything related to God. God is nothing but only one's chosen path to avoid facing reality in life.

If God is really that powerful, all of us should be living in heaven and there shouldn't be any need to fight any war especially religious wars. Just tell your God to get rid of your enemies.

So don't try to hide your hidden agenda under the guise of God. At least don't be stupid enough to impose your religious bigotry on non-believers of God. No God can help you if you don't help yourself, so stop being such a religious idiot to impose your beliefs onto others.

  2. Kee Chiu? Hahaha.. A CCC ministry is specially crafted for him so that he can get promoted immediately by doing basically no work, avoiding public scrutiny on the national stadium construction and future YOG fiascos. He is the chosen one to do the ball lifting for LKY and has special privileges.

    2. Kee Chiu said recruitment in sgp is done based on merit & ability, regardless of race/sex/age etc.

Then how come his boss on Labor day was just announcing to the whole generation of old pioneer workers to accept 'less job, less pay"? I think he better put "merit, ability & price" lah.

  3. LKY already adnowleged that any gay person is just like you and me. So yet why is Keechiu so worried about some company supportive of LGBT inclusiveness? Why he worried bigots like that Lawrence will create hell for him?

    1. By the definition on Wiki, Ah Gong Lee himself is already a shining example of a big BIGOT.

See how he fixed those oppositions and dissenting citizens in the various operations is a clear example of role models. So for LHL his son to go on others who disagree with the PDICs in Ngee Ann as bigots is actually very laughable.

  4. Goldman Sachs and IBM were already supporting and hosting the Inclusive Recruitment days in HK and Taiwan.

And GS+ IBM + Google also support the same platform in India.

So what's the matter with Ah Chan? At least GS has been very consistent worldwide in their actions and words. Why dont he go back and reflect upon his party's Manifesto about "inclusive' and tell us what he means by that in words and actions? He wants "diversity" in views but not 'division". The fact that people have expressed diverse views that are different from the mainstream or anyone else for that matter is term "division" or "sow discord", why don't he just say PAP is a party that want "consensus" instead of all that bull.!

  5. Did he read and understand what happened to Brendon Eich , the CEO of Mozilla? Removing the emotional "for/against" propositions, what happened there is a simple leadership problem.

The heart and soul of the organization didn't resonate with their leader's position on the issue, so the people and community removed him for his position against Equality marriage & LGBT.

Apparently, Major Chan is leading by example and demonstrating to us that Diversity, tolerance, and bigotry are clearly a one way street.

  7. The great worry for the citizens is not what GS and others do about LGBT issues. It is that we may have this paper general as our next PM. Clearly out of his depth in serious issues, he is a caricature what a PM or Minister should be.

  8. Let's be honest, there are plenty of Singaporeans guilty of bigotry against foreign races here. One needs only to do a cursory scroll through some hardwarezone and sammboy forums to see the bigots out in full force.

Speaking as a Chinese Singaporean, such behaviour makes me sick.

  9. I would have thought our supposedly inclusive PAP Govt would have welcome Goldman Sachs for their open mindedness in human resource practices instead of warning them to be more careful.

Is Ah Chan of the same frequency as the Talebans? Why the fuck does LHL says we are an inclusive society but this Ah Chan says otherwise?

If a conservative Pastor's daughter can have an illegitmate child without getting married, then how conservative can our society be? Are they not hypocrites to begin by keep telling us that we are a conservative society?

How can we be a conservative when there are massage spa whorehouses all over the town? You mean to say Ah Chan does not even know we have so many foreign prostitutes waiting to be fucked in Singapore?

  10. Singaporeans in general are not necessarily "conservative" in the way he was referring to, but his party and supporters definitely are. I think CCC was just trying to appease his voters.

  11. There is a section of people in our population that is uncomfortable with LGBT issues. These include all races, religious groups. They also hold positions of great influence and office of authority.

They are always in the shadows and are largely anonymous. Until they dare stand up and be visible, the under currents will continue with no agreements, no compromise, no acceptance.

They want to avoid a "them" against "us" situation, yet by being invisible, they create what they do not want.
This is the style of the true Singaporean.

  15. GS is merely reaching out to the LGBT money. For those of you who don't know, many highly paid lawyers, doctors, accountants, architects in S'pore are LGBT. Rather like in New York or London. Many of you will be shocked to find out that many high level directors in Civil Service are LGBT --- they just don't out themselves. But friends & some close colleagues know.

LGBT in S'pore is no longer the chao ah kwa in Desker Rd or Changi Village of 20-30 years ago. Many are easily earning over $15K a month and living in D9, 10, 11 condos. These are the LGBT that GS and other banks are targeting.

Being straight or LGBT is a choice, not "born this way". Do not be suckered in by this nonsense explanation of LGBTs are born like that. Choose the straight lifestyle and live normally. It's not that difficult. All who think or feel that they are LGBTs especially the young ones are misguided. Resolve to come out and declare you are straight even if you do think or feel like it. The majority of Singaporeas will support your courage in turning around in your decision in coming out this way and you will think and feel straight in time to come. When you look back after that, you can thank us straights and you can start to campaign against the LGBT bigots and propaganda spreaders. Come out and declare you are straight right now! The biblical test for whether something is good is whether the fruit that comes from it is good. Does it produce love, peace, patience, kindness, etc.? Same-sex couple seem able to accomplish that. But without the community support, high rates of suicide, even-higher rates of depression and self-harm, and a future of isolation, how can anyone claim that the fruits of the conservative position are good? Or to take it one step further, how can you claim that such a theology is from God?

My take is that the conservative position is not from God. It is a law-loving, graceless holdover from previous cultures that didn’t understand the homosexuality that we know today. Paul et al. weren’t referring to the loving homosexuality we know today; they were referring to cultic rituals, paedophilia, and abusive relationships that were intended to express power and domination. To enforce restrictions that were intended to reign in such excesses on loving, committed couples is cruel and offensive, straining the gnat towards gay people while swallowing the camel of straight privilege. To be in such a camp is to align oneself with the pharisees, those who elevated rules over grace.

I suggest why don't you come out and declare now that you are a BIGOT! Don't hesitate, just do it!

  21. Why is MG Chan so concerned about Goldman's 'sowing discord' when he clearly knows that Goldman is still very much part of the lead in the water that's poisoning everyone? Yes, including selling toxic debts into grandmothers' pension funds. Is he saying that GS poisoning the water is less important than their sowing discord on this single LGBT issue?

I don't care if Mr Blankfein becomes a Minister of the Church of eternal love, pro LGBT and officiates at same sex weddings. It's not going to change a thing.

But what PAP can change is to stop business with GS and get Temasek & GIC to walk away from their bags of money$$ and deals that they are working with them on. Why not show some moral courage and real back bone by announcing that to the citizens first?
