Some Explanation Required

Aduentes Fortuna Juvat : “Fortune favors the brave.”
The Chinese characters (arrive) and (upside-down) are both pronounced "dao". During the Chinese New Year festive period, the character ("fu", literally meaning auspiciousness, blessing or happiness) is displayed inverted, so that fu dao ("reversed fu") also suggests luck or fortune has arrived.

Legend has it that Zhu Yuanzhang (朱元璋), the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), once planned to kill a family that had insulted his wife, Empress Ma (马皇后), and marked them with the character 福. In order to avoid bloodshed, the kind hearted Empress Ma ordered every family in the capital to paste the character 福 in front of their doors.

Everyone followed the empress' instruction, but one illiterate family had pasted the character upside down. When the emperor's soldiers went through the streets, they found the character pasted everywhere, including the one displayed upside down. The emperor was very angry to hear their report, and ordered his his soldiers to kill the family who had pasted the character in the wrong way.

Empress Ma saved the day with her quick-wit, "That family had known that you would be coming to visit them, so they pasted the character upside down intentionally. Doesn't that sound like "fu arrives" ? Upon hearing this, the emperor was appeased and a tragedy was averted.

Luck had nothing to do with the stunning victory at Punggol East, a margin of 3,182 votes or 10.8 per cent of valid votes is not something to be sniffed at. Lee Li Lian deserves the accolades for her hard work, covering every one of the HDB blocks in the ward with the help of volunteers and party members. And we are forever indebted to the courage of the Punggol East voters, who were not seduced by the temptations of the short term giveaways, and focused on the future of their children's generation. As for the big time loser, he should have listened to his wife's counsel, "You want to help people, but people don't want you".

    1. Why not ? Translate to more by-elections. We should welcome that with open arms with certain party that has no value and no principle, for the good of whole nation.

  6. I guess all these ladies who cry are mostly PA staff just like Laura Ong. Must thank Laura Ong for opening her legs for Palmer to let PE be taken by WP. Thanks a lot.

    1. Yes. Why the need to cry? Have they actually know that many residents are crying quietly everyday because they have problem security the next meal or cannot afford medical treatment even though they are very sick?

  9. PA being a manipulated tool of PAP now carries a lot of unnecessary baggage which would have been averted if the father & son team had not been that cunning & calculative in their own political ways.

    LTK was right to say that heaven have eyes. Hope WP will thrive on the continuity of PAP's own deceitful means.

  10. Perhaps they cried because they know they will lose their cosy jobs with PAP.

  11. The fortunes of the famiLee and PAP turned upside down has arrived. I like the analogy.

    An honest, sincere, passionate and hardworking true heartlander has won against an elite with high credentials and phony theatricks, thanks to the people of Punggol East, who can see the difference.

    We don't need any more scholars, doctors, lawyers, generals etc in Parliament - see where it has got us thus far? With the prospect of a 7 million population in the works, your children will be the ones crying for a lost Singapore.

    LOL.the people don't want his help indeed. Nothing personal, we have enough BS being rammed down our throats, and spurs behind our hides for so long, we don't need a colorectal doctor to shaft more tubes up our asses! Besides, when PAP says help..it means more coming out of our own pockets/means. In other words, we have to help them to help ourselves!!! No thank you very much.

    1. Why we "hide" away trillions and not use some to help the poor and old. The reluctant to reveal how much we have always scre us. Is there money? Really? NO?

    2. Q: Where is the money going to come from?
      A: From the hard work, bank and CPF accounts of Singaporeans.

      Q: Where is the money going to?
      A: We don't know. But we do know that some money is being paid to a $2 company. For what I'm not really sure.

  13. They must really be believing in their own hubris to think they can attribute everything to lack of time for their "programs" to bear fruit. All I know is I am paying more for Medishield, more town council fees despite AIM, more COE, more for everything because these suckers just want MOAR of our money. I think they are a bunch of delusionists, reminds me of Louis XVI just before he was sent to guillotine. How long are they going to bluff themselves they will have a chance come 2016, unless of course they plan to suspend or change the constitution to ban all opposition before then? Cannot count out the old evil one to fix us before he kicks bucket.

  14. Want my vote back, do the following 1st:

    1. Stop bringing in foreigners and giving out citizenship so easily as if they are worthless papers;

    2. Come out schemes to encourage giving priority to local (I mean Singaporean) when recruiting, for a start, all job vacancies in Government bodies should be filled only by Singaporeans;

    3. Take good care of our elderly, give them free transport and medical care (for those who cannot afford);

    4. Disband PA, a very useless organisation, serves no purpose but just wasting taxpayers' monies;

    5. Move CPIB and Election Dept. out from PMO, treat everybody, every party equally; &

    6. Last but no least - return CPF members their CPF savings when they reach 55 (no ifs and buts).

  15. Jobs in PA should be filled by retirees and disable people so that they can earn a decent living without having to do physically demanding jobs such as clean toilets, clear trays etc. Why goes to those PA ladies with expensive manicure fingernails to seduce the MPs from doing the jobs? THey can also work for the night club.

    1. I agree. PA is nothing more than a political entity, set up and funded using public money, to help the PAP cling on to power.

  16. I hope our elderly can enjoy free transport and free medical care (if they cannot afford it) and if you ask me how to fund this welfare? I will say slash the ministers' astronomical salaries by another 50%, it is still ridicoulsy high even after the 'wayang' cut.

  17. Other person scandals, won. You scandal lost!

    How did it go wrong?
    $100,000 CEO and $1,000,000 flats. Everyone has a car and home lah!

    Cigarette prices so high, smoking corners so few and fines so high!

    How to win? What do you think?

    2. I was also wondering why WP won in Hougang BE, while PAP under similar circumstances, lost its white pants. They still believe in the BE effect shit. They are still in denial mode. I hope they continue to believe that, which is a blessing in disguise for the opposition.

    3. That is why they are still clueless as to why they did not win. Building more expensive flats is not the answer. Building cheaper flats coupled with reduction of foreigners and more affordable healthcare will solve the most basic problems.

      What is the point of the 'higher family income' boast when in the end all the money earned is poured into the pigeon hole and having to continue working until a ripe old age to cope with the high cost of living?

    Since GE2011, PAP has suffered a string of losses ie losing Alj GRC, HG BE and now Punggol East BE! If it's in UK or Australia, there will be challenge to the party leadership since his leadership is in question. Remember Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher and Kevin Rudd did not lose the election. They lost their jobs through internal mutiny!

    1. Now you know why the old guard was retired off a long time ago.
      And why he needed to "groom" young talent into PAP.

      The old evil forsaw this a long time ago.

    2. How to challenge a dictatorship masquerading as a democracy? All the white kakis are beholden yes-men, selected specially with this unusual trait, just like the enuchs in ancient China.

      To reach the kind of political standard like UK or Australia, the first thing to be done is to vote opposition come 2016. Then there is hope.

  19. Today ST reported that the DPP declared "Onus of proof is on Ng & Corruption can still occur in a relationship".

    How come they never charge Palmer to prove there is no corruption when Palmer already admitted there was sex involved in his relationship with PA's Laura ?

    Is this a clear case of double standards in both prosecution & persecution ?
