Who's The Boss?

Ng Eng Hen is supposed to be the chief strategist for this coming election, but nobody seems to give a hoot to his edicts, namely (1)outgoing incumbents to introduce replacements after August 9, (2)don't use Facebook to broadcast retirement plans. And that advice about negative campaigning didn't last too long either - advisor Teo Chee Hean is already taking pot shots at a certain town council, even when his own National Research Foundation (NRF) does not pass muster with the Auditor General.

Former Transport Minister Raymond Lim was pretty loquacious when he was head of some think tank called the Round Table or something. Since re-elected in GE 2011, he lost his voice for the whole duration 12th Parliament was in session (10 October 2011 -). And he suddenly pipes up only to utter, "It has been a great privilege and honour for me to have served as your MP these past 14 years.”

Goh Chok Tong was more provocative. He used Facebook to call his own shots:
"As for me, A few friends have suggested that I retire as I have done enough for the country. But Marine Parade residents and many others urge me to stay on. They say the country and Marine Parade still need me.
Well, I will explain my decision at our ND dinner on 14 Aug. Wish me wisdom."

As we understand the status quo, his ultimate fate is determined only by two parties. One, the electorate, who sent George Yeo packing to Hong Kong, and two, the prime minister, who alone decides who stands and who falls. But Goh upped the ante by announcing the candidacy of Edwin Tong ("at my request"), the lawyer defending the round-tripping hijinks of the City Harvest Church pastor - and the infamous flow chart used to trace the circuitous movements of our Central Provident Fund (CPF). If that's not enough, Goh just declared that the Kate Spade aficionado will be back, complete with a live SG50 baby package. Who, pray tell, is really in charge?

Years ago, when there was speculation about the People's Action Party (PAP) splitting into two ranks to provide the people with alternate voices in parliament - as in give the people cake, and eat it too - the scenario was to have Goh leading one team, and Lee Hsien Loong the other. No need for messy opposition parties meeting in secret and provide horse trading stories to sell local newspapers. Don't you just love the smell of scandal in the morning?

  1. It is all the legacy of that horrible man. Everyone seems to think he is a mini LKY, but without his credentials. that "bargain Hen", as netizens call him, is no exception. And, as you say, no one gives him a hoot.

    1. Like'Lau Goh', whose pronouncements were always at odds with dear leader and shot down by lower rank deities, I don't think 'bargain hen' has much credibility either in the eyes of the internet community. More for showing to the converted 60% that he is the boss.

  2. Probably and likely a medical officer during his Nationa Service Days, he has become a Defence Minister, how this is so is not nice to speculate though logically speaking, his education and profession are more medical and health related.
Maybe if a Lt General gets voted in, there could be a change to one more related to National Defence.

Remember watching him in a television programme which was anchored by Lee Kuok Huang for the National Conversation. Eng Hen appeared much less eloquent than Lee; the Mediacorp Actor. But, he(Hen) was much humble then than he is today, now he speaks like an Aristocrat. However, as noted by most, no one give a damn to what he had said or says.
His lack of humility or rather, his change to a more dictating posture is only going to alienate the People and also his fellow parliamentarians.
I do not believe that are no rivalry in the Cabinet.

  3. Ah Hen planned to announce all the candidates after National Day. But Lawrence Wong jumped his gun in announcing that he will be contesting in the new Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.

The problem with conducting sleazy "negative" campaigns is that the shit can land back in your face. Lawrence Wong is the Minister of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY), under whose purview is the People's Association. In the AGO report on 15 July, it flagged 30% in 115 of the 1800 GROs under the PA that were "test checked", with financial and accounting irregularities. Therefore the accusations, hurled at the WP in the AHPETC for “the failure to manage related party transactions and conflicts of interest”, could be equally applied to the PA, in fact, more so.

Residents suffer when the management of ̶a̶ ̶t̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶c̶o̶u̶n̶c̶i̶l̶ People's Association goes rogue. But there is a deathly silence from MCCY, in particular from Lawrence Wong, who accused the WP of "suppresio veri, suggestio falsi" in Parliament (to suppress key facts, and suggest something which is untrue, amounting to fraud). Does he wear a mask, and his face grows to fit it? Why no complete audit of the PA, or freezing of its one billion funding, which is no small feed, compared with the 14 million AHPETC grant, which was frozen? What is sauce for the WP is not sauce for the PAP?

  5. The GRC groupings offer insight into who's the boss or the most coward:

6-member GRC meant for the supreme leader
    5-member GRC for heavy-weight minister
    4-member GRC light-weight minister

  6. Last time he was taken down by LKY but he is still senior minister in name right? This time, he will be taken down by Lee jnr courtesy of voters. He has surely know how to spread both sides of the bread to butter for so long. Surprised he won't consider saving it for PE later? Because KFC will be gone for sure.

  7. If he can't even keep his promise to give all Singaporeans the Swiss standard of living, why he don't feel shameful for admitting his friends said he has already done enough for Singaporeans?

Marine Parade constituents must be enjoying the Swiss standard of living to keep voting for the previous wooden warm seater?

Simi Swiss standard living? Not even 1/4 baked. Real Swiss get to have up to 4 times/year to vote for referendum that concerns them or if they wish to oppose. Do you get it here? Vote for oppositions and PAP tries very hard to fix them. And despite your strong objection, 6.9'or 10m are still going to happen because our Oppo and democracy has been set back by 50 years before 2/3 first world parliament can take place. You got power to stop PAP impunity? When ? 2050? When your 1 man 1 vote became 1 resident 1 vote? Wake up lah sinkies still in slumberland. If they want to be grateful to That old horrible person, far better they burn hi some hell notes this ghost month and save their vote to vote harder. Only in SGP first world nation where 85% of people living in public houses is still call wealth creation!! So rich how come you are not 15% of the condo or landed property statistics? Instead, look around who are the ones living and buying?

    2. Real Swiss standard of living in Singapore until so many senior uncles and aunties has to resort to collecting used cardboard and drink cans as a form of exercise ?

Thank you LHL, GCT, LKY & PAP for making them exercise so much until their backs are bending and the money collected only enough to buy peanuts not those Mrs GCT's S$600K ones.

He has made enough and time to step down except for his Party's fear that his GRC would go down with him

He must be couldn't be bothered not to know that REACH ONLY CONNECT WITH IT'S OWN ARISTOCRATS.
REACH, like him could not be bothered to listen to the People.
Btw, Goh Chok Tong talked alot and even promised Swiss Standard of Living for Sinkies when the Golden Era was not not delivered by the Horrible Man. Chok Tong choked on his Words and failed to deliver his Swiss Standard too. However, he himself could be living above Swiss Standard because $600k a year remuneration is peanut to his wife. So, can You imagine what kind of lifestyle Mr & Mrs Goh Chok Tong and their Family are living in.

As a Prime Minister before, did Goh Chok Tong reach to his people?

    1. To be fair, he did reach out to the people's pockets.

As for LHL era the last 10 years on his throne, one just have to watch the latest PG ad (journey to West) featuring Pinky the monkey, and the spider jinx who is always casting the web to take your money. The teeny weeny umbrella can't even cover a drop of rain, but it few into a medium size and finally large umbrella. In other words, will our personal, private CPF money someday become a statewide social security for universal welfare ? So is CPF really your money? If you disagree and protest, just wait for your harassment suits to be served on you!

Woes are the citizens who are illiterate and uncritical.

  10. Goh also gave hint.
Said TPL will have time to recover from confinement to contest.
Confinement usually lasts 2 months for maternity.
Therefore, GE is two months from now = mid Oct.
Everybody else is just kiasu, or trying to flush out the oppositions strategy early.
So, people please, steady pong pee pee, don't over expose too early when date is not even announced yet.

    1. Traditionally, Chinese women must observe a strict one-month postnatal confinement. Even now, a lot of modern and highly educated women still follow the tradition. Though there are regional varieties with the rituals and taboos about the confinement, the common taboos are as follows:
      - washing hair
      - drinking cold water
      - cleaning teeth
      - eating fruits considered ‘cold’ (or ‘yin’) in nature
      - touching water for a lengthy period of time
      - being exposed to the elements, especially wind (from the fan or outdoor wind)
      - crying
      - moving about

    2. I don't know and don't want to 2nd guess the GE date. However, I do notice something about GEs over the decades and that they usually hold the GE during school holidays. So Sept sounds reasonable during the 1 week school holidays. Otherwise it may be Dec. But I think Sept is more credible as it is near to the SG50, GST vouchers and sympathy votes for the horrible man. If it is too far away from these dates people may forget....lol

  12. Methinks the Goh camp and the Lee camp may split because they both genuinely dislike each other. They're constantly trying to undermine each other's minions, diminish the other side's influence. The most obvious example would be CCS vs TCJ, supposedly the two foremost candidates for the post of the next seatwarmer PM. CCS is the Lee faction's guy, TCJ is Goh faction's guy.

  13. Why I'm Voting Opposition
    -------------------------------------------

“It is my job to think of these issues and to make the best decisions which I can, in my judgment, on our behalf and to account to Singaporeans, and say to the best of my ability this is what I have decided I have to do,”.

“And you may agree with it, you may not agree with it, but I can tell you in complete honesty that I am trying my best to do this on our behalf. And I cannot avoid doing this because otherwise I think I will be letting us down.”

  15. How can it be progress for Singapore if the true blue Singaporean fears that his job will be taken away and given to a foreigner every day.

How can he accept that the chance of his withdrawing his CPF money is growing further and slimmer each passing day when his parents could withdraw it at 55.
